When you're tracking something like guitars, and you have to do lots of punch in/outs to get it right, but the player keeps missing say the 5th note, and then says "ah f*ck! Go again!" so you delete that short take and start once more..

Well, all those little nonsense takes actually write to the HHD, and even after you delete them in the project window, they don't delete from the disk. Now I have about 100 little snippets of sound from an entire band's tracking sessions, but only a small portion are going to be used for the mix and my "audio" folder has multiple GBs of data in it that is useless to me. How can I make cubase delete these from the HDD when I delete from the project window?

Also, If i do all my edits, crossfades, etc and then mixdown each track to a new folder. Then take those new wav files and input them into a new project, is it safe to delete the original files in the "audio" folder?

And why oh why, when i do what i just mentioned does Cubase make a friggin copy of my wav files that i just exported and re-imported?! I don't need 10 gigs of tracks for one project!

Thanks everyone, this is frustrating and my HDD is filling faster than I ever imagined.

You can either clean up the unused files in the Pool, or Backup Project, check 'remove unused files', then delete you original project folder. I have never done it via the pool myself, but I'm sure it is covered in the manual.

Thanks Jimmy, I'll give that a shot.

Do you know how to make it not duplicate my exported wav files when i drag/drop them into a new project? I guess i could just delete the exported wavs after they show up in the Audio folder, but i'd like it to not happen in the first place.

Hmm.. I do that all the time without getting doubles. Not sure what is going on there.

It must be a setting some place.. I just realized that i do a bunch of Mixoffs from the web, and every time i toss the wavs into Cubase it's duplicating them. No wonder my project folders are so massive!

Oh! Maybe it makes a difference if i tell it to "import into project" instead of just a strait export?
