Heya-My bandmates and I bought the package deal with said mixer-Da-38 recorder and tascam cd burner. Before buying this equipment my experience was limited to 4trks. I feel like I know just enough to get by with this equipment, and have been fairly happy with the results: www.ultratheband.com to hear my results if interested...

Anyway, is anyone else out there using this setup?(I should add that we were dumping the da-38 tracks into cakewalk, the next batch I'm going to go straight from the board to cakewalk) I've got questions and would be glad for any advice that any of you have. My first question is regarding mic-pre's. We bought a blue tube mic pre-is it a bad idea to run through this and then into the xlr input-in effect going through 2 mic pre's? If so, what would be the best way to bypass the boards mic preamp?

Enough for now, if anyone responds-I'll have more questions coming! Speak up and unite tmd1k users! Thanks Strat

I run a TMD1000 and Cakewalk :)

The TMD has phantom power so you should not even have to use the pre amp if you do not want to. If you turn off the Phantom power for the the mixer you should be ok though if you do use the preamp.

Cakewalk works pretty damn good with the mixer. I use just MIDI to control the faders ect via Cakewalk and have had little problems.
I am still learning the thing though, it does a crapload to say the least.

Heya-thanks for the response. Regarding the mic-pre thing, I read on the official tascam board, a post saying it was a bad idea to run, say, through the blue tube and then plugging into one of the mic ins. Not a phantom power issue but more the fact that your running through 2 mic pre's. Anyway I couldnt find the thread over there(I'll look again), but I've been doing it this way without a problem really.

I hear you! It took me a while to get used to the whole menu thing, but I'm learning what I need as situations present themselves. I've recently been pushing the limits recording-7 tracks at once into cakewalk at 20 bits, I'll post up the tune when I'm done. My biggest problem w/cakewalk was the whole fader automation thing- I still don't like it! But I've found if you set all track volumes to -1 in the track view it seems to give you a plain old mixer to work with...

Ok next question-I send all tracks and aux'es back to track 7-8 on the TMD-If I keep 7-8 panned center I get a balanced mix with not much stereo field-If I pan them hard right and left I get a nice stereo field but a huge volume discrepency between channels. Eg; track 7 fader will have to be 5db louder than trk 8 fader for them to sound equal. I think I have a problem with one of my tmd channels... anyway how do you work your routing for mixing?

Thats all for now-I'd like to hear what you've done with your setup-lets hear it! Thanks in advance for any responses
