Wondering if anyone has been using this version of xp for a long period of time. Could you comment on its performance and stability (in terms of just running your daw programs)

1990s thinking.

Used to be that you had to strip down the OS and run lean and mean to get any computer to record..... back when PCs were sub-1Ghz with a few hundred megs of ram.

Now any computer you get is fine without mucking with it.
Heck, I've been using a Toshiba NETBOOK with 2gb of ram as a 'vacation daw' and no other changes.
My other computers are running with ZERO changes.

Chances are anything you do is just going to take you a lot of time and give
you more chances to muck things up and not give you any real performance increases.

Don't bother...

Im not doing it for performance reasons i have 2 hardrives in my computer and would rather set up dual boot so one hard drive is with w7 for gaming, uni work, internet, torrents etc and then i want the other disk to be just for recording. Just to keep things separate and stop any chances of a virus getting into my audio hard drive. Problem is slimey microsoft wont let you install w7 twice..... even when both hard drives are in the same computer being run my the same hardware. Thats why i need to find a reliable version of an operating system.

If you deal with cracked software (either OS or sequencers or plugins) you can
pretty much COUNT ON getting hit with viruses.

There's too much low-cost (like Reaper) or FREE stuff out there to use and get pro results.

You're just asking for trouble...

Seriously, if you cant afford the whole $80 a legit copy of XP runs these days, you should probably be looking for a different hobby than recording..
