Nothing was developed by "the Germans" or "the Americans", but by individual people such as Goddard and Von Braun. The great minds behind great mics include for example Alexander Schribeman in Russia and Georg Neumann in Germany, not "the Russians" or "the Germans". And often enough, for better or for worse, the movers and shakers, creators and destroyers, are ex-patriots, refugees, etc. anyway.
This a fundamental concept based on honoring talent and work and if the complementary concept of laying blame and punishment on individuals instead of nations would be practiced maybe the world would be a better place.
Well that's the way I look at it. But in musical gear I don't practice what I preach because I'm definitely biased toward gear made in Eastern Europe and former "East Bloc" countries in general, LOL.

Hm, I recently read that the capsule of my Rode NT-2 is made in China and the rest of the mic in Australia. Who the individual people are I have no idea but it's a good mic and very good for the price. As I learn more about mics and more respect for their makers, I would not buy another NT-2, not because it's partly made in China, but because looks like other older mics far too much, without the innovative styling touches that differentiate a "tribute" from a copy, and I disrespect that. But it seems to be discontinued and the other Rode mics have another look and I don't disrespect the company as a whole, in fact I think they're great.
I will be buying Oktava mics, but never the one that looks nearly identical to a certain well-known Neumann.
Anyway, I feel there's a certain disingenious logic used when making comparisons and generalizations in defense of "company B" or in rationalizing the buying of their products. Of course there's copying, emulation, inspiration and downright theft going on all over the place all time. But when you get the feeling that a company bases their ENTIRE BEING on these practices, I'd say a personal boycott is definitely in order and I practice it in this case myself. No legal accusations here- I feel no honor emanating from company B so they'll never get my money, simple as that.
It's all about "one monkey" in every act of right or wrong and personal responsibility.
