Been sampler/sequencer shopping for a minute... I am looking for a good piece of hardware that performs both of these functions. Initially my thoughts were go with the 2000xl.. but after reading about it, how the sound is rather thin and not so strong build quality... then I read into the 3000, which most love, but at $1700+ isnt cheap...would like the 4000 some day, when I have the cash and if it turns out to be good.... then read about the 60... which I see some on ebay for $500, dont know if they go for more than that by the end of the auctions..
which right now is looking like a potential purchase for me. The differences between it and the 3000 are, as I understand:
1. 12 bit instead of 16.... not a problem, good for that older sound anyway
2. no digital in/out- fine, dont need it anyway
3. no effects, other than delay and attack... but most say that the effects on newer mpc's are almost useless anyway.
4. Less memory... this MIGHT be a problem- what is the maximum memory these can have?? I wont be sampling entire songs, so I dont need a lot of sampling time, probably just chopping stuff, maybe a few short loops here and there.. but as far as sequencing, the sequencer on my keyboard (roland jx-305) has run out of memory while programming even doing 16 bar loops... does the low ram put such limits on sequencing?
If there is any other differences or things I should know please point them out.... few other questions:
- Hows the sequencer? I need a good sequencer, I have a new computer which I am planning on learning ACid and Reason on, but I'd like to have a piece of hardware that can do it.... is it as good a sequencer as the 2000 and 3000?
- Roger Linn/ OS upgrade... read that with the OS upgrade it operates the same as a 3000... where do I get the OS from and does it cost anything?
-SCSI upgrade... how much $$$? Is a zip or hard drive easy to install?
Thanks
