I saw one of these a couple of years ago. That guy didn't even try to relist it, but parted it out. Ebay was flooded with bits for weeks afterwards. I got the headblock as spares for my TSR-8, and also the VFD and a couple of channel cards as spares for my '32.

The packing peanuts jammed in the broken reel hub statement made me spit my Coca-Cola all over my keyboard. A 60-pound sensitive electronic item in PACKING PEANUTS—WHAT???
Anyway this seller is on my no-no list. He still doesn’t appear to grasp that he is exhibiting his incompetence for all to see, with detailed pictures to prove it. Bassically saying, "Here's what you can expect when buying items from me." Oh...but Please bid with confidence

Yeah, but I try to stick to the honest and competent whenever possible. The scary part is he may really believe UPS did it, and so won't change the way he packs heavy items. So on my do-not-buy-from list he goes.

That's so true, (above), about those pictures advertising, "this is what to expect when you buy from me!"
See, even if you spent, say,... $2.99, or even $20 on it for parts, you could rightly assume it would get damaged again on the 2nd trip out, ending up in even more pieces than before,... and would be of little use for parts in the end.
For the guy who spit on his 'puter, over someone packing a 38 in "plastic peanuts", which of course give no support & little protection,... consider that I had a similar 38 sold to me off Ebay, that was packed in,... t-shirts.
T-SHIRTS!... the likes of which were the nastiest of Goodwill throwaways, and the box was sized-to-fit. That particular 38 made a 1-way trip into my garage, was covered in plastic and set aside,... permanently at this point. The punch line is, that I got the 38 working again, but cosmetically it's almost a total loss. Bent chassis, bent bottom panel, broken back panel, bent top-bonnet, bent face plate, cracked VU meter, broken head cover, broken reel clamper, bent tension arms. Aaaaaagggghhhh!! It was so clean and in fine shape before shipment!
No,... the real punch line is, that I got all my money back from the seller, with an apology (as I'd asked to pick it up and he said no), plus got to keep the damaged unit.
Since then, I've always tried to pick up the heaviest of Ebay items.
On this listing, you'd have to consider there's a manual, a remote, a snake, and a whole bunch of parts that may be salvageable. I'd consider buying it just for that. Again, you'd have to consider that it would be damaged a second time from further shipping.
Bottom line: damage like that is always the seller's fault!

the way this poor machine looks - is heartbreakin' ...
also, this may be actually an easy fix (if you can ignore cosmetics) ... it really may just need one table and hubs and some general 'set-up' to bring it back to life ... you never know thou, it may be a mess..., but for the price of 12pack or so this can be a real cool deal. Bid on it

I was exaggerating. I know the heads are worth a lot, as is. I also expect it to bid higher. The remote, snake & manual are worth $75, minimum, and you'll find a treasure trove of parts for low-dollar, in there.

You should have seen one of my 38,s that was packed in a box with two dx4d,s and remote. And it had 0 packing

The worst I ever had was a Tascam 22-2 from Canada. The guy had a real treasure – a little used perfect condition machine that had been in storage for years. When I got it the heads and tape path looked new. The pictures on the ebay listing were stunning. 
Only problem is he shipped it upright with no padding, so both of the plastic feet were snapped off and one jammed into the front panel cracking that as well. The volume knob was pushed into the machine and bent.
The only “padding” in the box was to thin pieces of Styrofoam on two sides and a 2X4 – yes, a piece of wood! That only served to leave scratches all over one side of the unit.
Some people are just f...ing retarded.
Jesus loves them though, they just shouldn't be allowed on ebay.

Sorry to hear that Beck. Some people don't care how the packing is done.
I bought a deck from Florida, seller shipped with faceplate down in the box. Both headstack, reel-tables were pushed in arrived as junk..
I rather drive and pick them up now instead.

Yep, these days I would rather drive if it's not too far. Otherwise I give detailed instructions on how it should be packed (tactfully so as not to insult the seller's sensibilities).
