Since you all were so helpful last time , I thought Id give it another go...

http://www.mp3.com/soupoftheday

the first two tracks are new... Doorway and After all.

(btw, Im horrified anyone heard that last version of after all.. this is the good one.)

thanks in advance!

xoxo

Listening now to Doorway. First thoughts: WOW Voice. Bass Drum distorted (really distorted). Another great song.

Again, the subliminal background stuff is very cool!

Yeah. Another great song! (why the 2 to 5 seconds of silence on each song?)

OOOooooh! Another corny non-instrumental lead in...

Doorway...Door creak at beginnning!

Hey, I've got another (legitimately decent idea) for this song, it's all recording technique, no corny stuff, have to go see Roy Clark concert, will get back in three hours or so...

Okay, you're in trouble now - I'm listening to it for the first time as I write. :D Two impressions: I'd like to hear the whole CD, and there's too much bass. It sounds loose and relaxed and shambling, which contrasts nicely with the lyrics. I like the random scratchy noises, and the spot of 'radio voice'. I like your drummer (nothing personal), and would like to hear him/her more clearly defined and with less bass. I do chord progressions like the ones in this song sometimes, too. Yup, I've nailed it - voice and guitar fine, but cut bass on the rhythm section. What'd you do? Put some compression on it?

Mostly, I like the feel of it. That's what makes it. That's what counts.

I listened on good headphones.

Hey camn,

How come songs like Doorway play well in MP3 without adjustment, while After All always takes reducing gain by 15 dB? Is this your encoder, or are the After All takes really hot because of different studio, mix, whatever?

This happens on some other songs, but I've always noticed After All (the three incarnations so far) are always 15 dB hotter than the others. Any comments?

ok,ok,ok, kelly.
The 3 seconds are because theres a count off or something at the beginning of each take.. and on some I was too lazy to cut it out, since these mixdowns aren't final...
After all 15db thing?? I have no Idea. the current version is from the same session as most of the other songs.. Ill check it out, though.

Dobro. God I know!! Every time I think It's good, my little hand reaches out and CRANKS the bass. I CANT STOP!!! GOD!!! HELP!!! (no, no compression, though.)

thanks, you guys.

xoxox

ps.. I went on a rampage and put up a bunch of shite.

These are REALLY good tracks, Camn. Did you studio these, or what?

Compromise has 22 secs of dead air. What was there previously? Is that a dual bass line?

Left over right dies about 10 secs too soon. Thanks for the teaser, dude!

Cloud song is well played, wanted a mix up somewhere in there, didn't get it.

All this and more based on single play of each and half a case of beer. Will try to listen more attentively soon...

-K.

p.s. these seemed just right, no +15 dB shtuff goin' on in these...

uh, yeah. I forgot about that 22 seconds of dead air thing. It really took me a while to get into the groove. My whol problem is that I use CD architect, so when i make "real" cds, I cut out the beginnings and stuff. So I pay NO attention to beginnging and ending airspace till then.

BUT thats a single bassline. My man just has dual personalities. (there is a dual bassline in Left over right.. maybe thats what you mean. which, incidentally, played the whle way thru just now. must've been a solar flare.)

oh, yeah. I hate cloud song. but we pull off this switching from live drums to samples, and we even do it live, so we keep it around.

Thanks, doo.
