This is from China, not bad.

I know the whole "everything made in China" crap sucks...but we really don't have any options! LOL

Either pay low cost for a Chinaman building it in China, or pay 5x the cost for a Mexican building it in the USA.

You could get the Epiphone Les Paul for less than that...and it's probably of better quality.

You don't even know what you're talking about. They are very nice guitars and sound pretty damn good recorded. This band I always record once had a choice between tracking with a gibson lp studio or the esp and we all liked the esp better. Not saying everyone will prefer it but it easily holds its own against epiphones.

No, YOU don't even get what I was saying.

I said that I HATE that everything is made in China, but they're perfectly fine guitars. I'd rather buy USA, but the choice just isn't there.

You took what I said wrong. Most stuff made in China is as good as the USA stuff...it just SUCKS that's it's made in China...that's all I said. GEEZ!!!

Why should it matter where a guitar is made if it is built with quality?
Over the past few years China has been producing some very high quality guitars, yes they still make junkers but so does Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Mexico and even the USA. There was a time when a made in China guitar was a piece of crap that you gave a 10 year old for Christmas, just to shut them up, but this has changed. China has entered the world market on guitars and the Chineese makers have realized there is some stiff competition out there. Major companies like Washburn, Fender, Johnson, ESP and no doubt many others now carry models made in China. The bottom line for me is... Forget the name on the headstock, ignore where it was made, look for real quality and workmanship, and buy the best you can afford. Of course I don't recommend buying any guitar without playing it first so you can judge the truth for yourself.

Are you asking "IS it safe?" Marathon Man.......
I just picked up an ESP LTD EC 1000 for one of my kids and I was very skeptical but this one (I have no idea about QC or any other ESP other than a lot of cats are playing them) sounds great! A pair or Seymour Duncans (I am Seymour Duncan by the way), a great finish and nice feel all around.

* I wouldn't buy anything from China off the Bay

Are you insane? Have you ever played an ESP? I don't care where it's made they are damn fine guitars.

I think that throwing $50 or $60 at almost any new guitar for a good setup will make it worth having. There was this local shop in town that had all of these weird off brand copy guitars. "austin" and "Memphis" and some others that you've heard of. Every one of them played great because the store's tech were so good at setting them up.

Unfortunately, I think that a good setup doesn't last a long time on a shitty guitar. The banana wood has too much moisture in it or something. You can have killer action one day and then cheese cutter in a month.

I don't know about you

but I cut the cheese more than once a month.

If I didn't, I'd explode!

I always thought ESPs felt like well made guitars, but I don't like them. Just too set in my old school ways, don't like them new-fangled contraptions that kids these days play.

Just a matter of taste, but they seem like perfectly fine guitars.

Yeah, I hate to buy Chinese too, but what are you going to do. Believe me, if I could afford an all-Gibson and Fender USA stable, that's what I'd have.

The ESP/LTD 400 lines are great guitars. They use quality hardware and pickups, and are probably the best bang for the buck that you can find in the entire ESP line. I think you would not be disappointed with that guitar. I've played both, and the ESP's have always been much nicer than the Epiphones, to me.

Sorry you actually misunderstood me, I was refering to your Epi's are better than LTD's comment. I'm a fan of chinese stuff myself, decent quality at a poor man's price.

Haven't played the 400 series, but a buddy of mine just got his hands on the sunburst EC1000, with the Duncans, and that thing plays like a wet dream. I want one. Right now. :D

I've drooled over those ESP's and the Schecters plenty of times, unfortunately I'm one guitar away from sleeping in the garage.

IMHO you would have to spend twice as much on a Gibson to get the same quality.

It's the Harley/Honda argument.

Hahaha, I think I'm slowly approaching that point myself. :D I bought some guitar cases on sale at GC last week, and actually overbought by 1, since a guitar I thought would fit into it won't. So I told my wife that I would have to go buy another guitar to have something to put in it. She barely batted an eye, but I think she was holding back on me! :D

Not exactly.

Most of the known universe is an agreement that Honda makes the better motorcyle, at any price. ;)

I was told that 90% of the guitars made in China including the brands, "austin", or "Memphis" are made by Samick.

I guess if you order enough guitars, they'll put whatever name you want on the headstock. I'll order 25 Capnkid and you can order 25 Cephus. :p
