the big difference is that musicians friend or zzsounds or whatever is not making the product, they are simply distributing it. their name isn't being slandered if it gets a bad review. their business is assisting customers with questions and making sure the right address gets slapped on the package, not manufacturing.

i did a reveiw on random products saying ti sucked really bad.. :D

Geez, what part of "This is a Capitalist country" didn't you get? If I put up a web site to sell my product, I'm not going to pay to post up user reviews that say it sucks.
True! China is also a "Capitalist" country. They make microphones. ;) I own a couple Chinese mics and I'm not totally dissapointed. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul that I paid $500 for. The neck feel is great and the action is fantastic. Where the guitar lacks is in the pickup department and one of these days I'll swap the pups out to improve on the tone. Point is, I didn't rely on a written review. I took the guitar off the rack and played it to get a *feel* for it. It didn't sound as good as I had hoped, but it felt comfortable enough to play, tone issue aside.

Shortly after I purchased that guitar Epiphone introduced the Elite series. There's always tomorrow! :)

This was posted previously, but these are the best reviews I've ever read on a retailer's website. They are for a "First Act" acoustic guitar. I originally saw them on Target's website, but the same comments appear here:

Make sure to read them all. Click on "see more" at the bottom of the review section.

Hilarious stuff!

This is hilarious, this toy is detrimental to our youth:
"I now have a Squier strat and its SO much better and easier to learn on and lasts!"
" I BOUGHT MINE. WHEN I TUNED IT THE NECK BENT. I CAN PULL THEY NECK UP AND DOWN.. IT IS HALF OFF. I BROPUGHT IT TO THE GUITAR STORE WHERE I BOUGHT MY Jasmine AND THEY SIAD THAT THEY REFUSE TO TOUCH THE GUITAR. THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD A FEW POEPLE RECENTLY THEY GOT SEVERLY CUT ON THEIR FACE FROM THE NECK CUTING THEM. IT WILL NEVER STAYIN TUNE"
"I noticed that the frets are stickers"
"The frets are golden, and some may or may not be crooked. The fret markers are just plain old round stickers placed in the middle (quite unsatisfactory, half of mine have already peeled off) The paint around the sound hole is black, and can actually smear off."
"I bought my 5 year old this guitar because she started to show an interest since her brother was playing. A tuning peg pulled out literally within minutes of tuning for the first time."

Heh heh heh, I owned a Dean "Z" back in the early 80s...I could almost get that rubbery POS neck bent to where the headstock would touch the bridge...Still dunno what they made that cheap bass out of, traded it for a nicer rig after a month or so...

I remember the first bass I had when I started playing music. I don't remember the brand, but it was the size of a regular guitar. My parents also bought me a REALLY cheap amp.

So on the bass, I could play any string except the E string which sound like "thwap thwap thwap". The first song I learned was Psycho Killer from Talking Heads. So, it sounded like: "boom boom boom boom boom boom boom thwap thwap boom..."

Also, when I started playing punk way back in 1985, we were practicing with my cheap amp. So at one point we started smelling smoke. We looked and there was smoke coming out of the amp. Of course we thought that was cool.

That was pretty random. I got a laugh out of it though. :D

have you not seen the "Hot item" or "Best seller". and guess what the item is. A berigher item. if they had such bad reveiws on their site would they sell? every day Im sure there are lots of new musucians interested in recording and their first search? "whats the cheapest thing I can buy". and what pops up first? then they cant get it to work out or their recordings dont sound like the "CD". so they search for home recording and find this site. then say " If I had known I would have spent a little more money. but its too late you just made B a little richer.

Yes it was a bit random, but when I saw the reviews for the crappy acoustic I thought of my first bass.

The older I get, the more it occurs to me just how many hours, days, or even weeks it will take me to pay for that new piece of gear. It's depressing to see two weeks pay evaporate.

Therefore, I do extensive research before i buy anything. One place I come is here. I love this place!!!

I'm surprised no one's noticed that a couple of different sites use the exact same buyer reviews...That bothers me....

Eric

IIRC, it's actually a third party company that handles the reviews for a number of those companies. Reviews added from any site show up on all of them. That's why they have policies that say things like "don't talk about the price you paid", as different stores will have them at different prices....

I love this one:

"Every time the guitar was played, I had to retune it. Sometimes more than once during a session  (say it ain't so). The strings are very low quality, and broke after the second week of playing. I tried to restring the guitar, but even with good strings, it was not made well enough to keep the strings in place for more than a day before having to retune (lazy bastard)."

I trust all the reviews on the Esteban guitars 'cause they say it sucks! :D

No need to send my three payments of $69 to that sad zorro imposter.

Sirnothingness,

Esteban has been notified. You have been warned.
