From looking at the 797 site it seems pretty obvious that the B1 is made as an OEM product, to whatever was/is the agreed upon specification.
All companies should be as helpful as PMI is. I think it's too bad that we have a reliable outfit that produces excellent products for the money (perhaps an industry standard for value and customer service), and they repeatedly get bashed on this forum, for no rational reason.
I just made another commercial tonight for an out-of-state client, using the B1 for my voiceover. What a great microphone this is! Personally, I don't care if came off a shelf on the Titanic. The fact is, there are a lot of companies out there that are larger than PMI, but their interest in the customer doesn't approach what I've gotten from PMI. I can call up PMI with the absolute dumbest question on one of their products, and I always get a prompt, clear and helpful response. All this at a time when "customer service" in the US usually means 20 minute hold times and a "tech" who knows nothing about the product they are trying to support.
Having read both the PMI site's info and PR related to the B1, along with the 797 web pages, I see no inconsistency or problems in what's being promoted to the customer.
There is however a problem with a forum supposedly intended to be of benefit to the home recording community that gets turned into a platform of baseless and incessant innuendo -- consistently directed at one of the best companies one could ever do business with IN ANY FIELD.
