Subscribing. I'm really curious what happens with the direct WAV upload.
I've only a few experiences with Soundcluod, 'CD Baby- seeming to really nail some songs (in a bad way.
Might it be better to upload MP3's directly here as attachments?

I listened to the version in the first post, and I daresay you've fixed a lot of things along the way.

The overall feel reminded me a bit of REM (losing my religion). Was that a particular influence?

I wanted to like this song, but there were a number of things getting in my way.

Firstly, I sensed some timing tension. I think the guitars were trying to get away from the kit. I note that others commented on this.

Secondly, I got this overall sense of 'busyness': too much guitar, too much drums. I would really like to hear the track simplified and pared back.

Thirdly, I would love to hear a bit more drama in the vocals. There was nothing intrinsically wrong with them, but the mental picture I got as I listened was of someone reading the words as they recorded the vocal, rather than someone performing to an audience.

I like the song and its structure, and my comments are just my opinion. Feel free to disagree if you wish.

Sopunds like you've made significant inprovements based on the comments.
This could turn cowpunk with the basic rhthm if it were exagerated.
I liked the song too.

I tried an MP3 conversion, and compression is kicking in on it as well - this is the first time I've ever done this with an audio track that's been pushed close to 0dB.

I've uploaded WAV to bandcamp here Listening on computer speakers rather than my monitors, and I can hear that the guitars may duck down a little too much as vocals kick in for verse 1, this seems worse on the compressed versions, though. Maybe I just have the limiter set too high?

The vocal seems more defined this time around.

You said your voice sounds raspy when you really get into it? And you tried to mask that quality? Lol. I'm jelly. I sound way too clean most of the time. Even when I belt it out. I'd love to have a little more character in my vocals. If I were you, I'd embrace that fact that I can't sing everything clean and let my vocals do what they do. The second you try to sound like someone else you start sucking. Don't play it safe with the vocals. Some people will hate it, and some will love it. Billy Corgan comes to mind. Terrible singer. But Smashing Pumpkins honestly wouldn't have made it without that crazy voice.

Listening on the fly...

- it's a little reverb heavy for my tastes, but that's a personal thing

- The drums sound a little buried.

- I feel like it all gets a little muddy with the extra reverb and could use possibly a little more EQ to help. Sounds like a groovy 60s or 70s tune.

Other than that is sounds pretty cool to me.

thanks for listening and commenting.
I'm letting this song sit for a week or two longer, then I'll come back to it with fresh ears. I went from mixing to throwing a limiter on ithe master for volume all in the same day, not good for objectionism. ;)

Downloaded the MP3.
Sounds much better.
I do wish you'd let it rip occasionally with the vocal.

In liked the tune. Great lyric and chord progression. The mix sounds good to me. It sound retro like mixes from the 60's like California dreaming or a Doors song. I don't know if that was your intent but I think it suits the song well

Haven't read through the other comments.

1st verse, the vocals are buried. 2nd verse they are more prominent, but still get buried at times.

The mix gets dense during the chorus. You can probably thin out some extraneously tracks and still get that wall of sound arrangement.

I'm wondering if you could put more energy into your vocal delivery. It's very consistent throughout the song and I think it could benefit from more dynamics, emotion, etc.

All in all, just a bunch of little tweaks to dial the mix in. It's 95% there.

peace,

Thanks for all the comments everyone.
Soundcloud is still compressing this, even though this time I left a lot of headroom with the overall volume.
Tweaked the mix a bit:
