for the first time i'm looking for a limiter/comp that doesn't PUMP up my music,
i love sqashed drums and stuff,
but now i'm looking for a mixdown limiter, since i'm having alot more fun mixing with hardware.
the problem i have now is that i have OR compressors that are way too punchy to handly a stereo mix (symetrix 501, dod825, dbx163x, 160x
),
OR my compressor eats away my bottom end (tc triple c sounds thin to me eventough its a mutliband)
so i thought: i'll get me the RNC, should give pretty transparant compression,
but then maybe its better to go for the RNLA since i'm really looking for a limiter here, a specific sound might be nice, i heard that the rnla has its color, thats OK but i also read that if you push the volume a bit it can get distorted and dirty/.// sure , every comp might start sounding a bit dirty but i'm not into distortion in my main mix...
one day i'll get me a pair of 1176's, but now i want budget stuff,
so i"'ve heard people go crazy over the RNC but not over the RNLA,
i haven't heard any of those two comps, so what i wonder is:
which one won't let any peaks go trough,
which one won't destroy the sound when real high volumes (from a 24 channel mix) come together in the master.
and which of them messess the least with the low end? i don't really care about loosing a bit of top end
thanks in advance,
cheers
