yeah i've never been able to get a real "wow" sound when recording an ovation. i've gotten close, but never that sound that makes you go, "yes! that's it!"

I really like to use an Audix F-14 as a kick in, and I'm not embarrassed to admit it anymore.

I think the Blue Kickball is the worst design imaginable for a kick mic. I don't know if it sounds good or not because I can't get it in a usable position... Maybe I should try it as a kick out.

I don't believe I've ever heard the term "kick in" before :confused::confused:. I assume this means a mic inside of a kick-drum? If so, then....weird. I think the f14 sounds quite nasty for that. I do like it on floor-toms, however.

Why would you ever be embarrassed? Because it's cheap? If it sounds good, it sounds good...price be damned. Only a seriously closed-minded douchebag would tell you your opinion is just wrong or stupid...and since when does anybody care what seriously closed-minded douchebags think?
 
weird, i learned the term "kick in" on this site actually. I used to not particularly care for the F14 on kick and like you really liked it on other low frequency sources, until I did a session about a week ago and got a sound I really like out of it. (I was very happy considering I bought the mic new for $65 a couple of months ago.)

I've been so unsatisfied with more expensive/standard kick mics that I've been borrowing, I was blown away. I've been thinking about picking up an RE20 or a SM7B. I know the RE20 would be better on kick, but I could use a really good aggressive vocal mic.
 
no but i finally got invoiced for shipping on my TnC gear. which is close enough to christmas.

I'm intrigued with the SM7. I've seen them in some of the studio's I've been in, but have never used one. Now, I keep hearing about them. Gonna have to check it out.

No but my Christmas money is going to pay for a matched set of Beyer MC930s:):):).
Still waiting for them to arrive. Anyone out there worked with them?
