This sounds really fun! I'd love to join in on the fun, if i can! (Vocals) But, unfortunately nobody has heard me sing yet, to hear my voice. So just saying i'm a good singer is only worth it's weight in binary. =P
I do have an AT4040 in the mail, on its way to me though, and within a few weeks i will have my small recording room all setup and ready for action.

Okay lets take stock. We're getting alot of input which rocks but Greg L is right...who's gonna mix this?
Zed, that'd be cool if you're up for it. I might also suggest a series of sub mixes along the way? In terms of drums, multiple acoustic guitar parts and vocals I think we could cut down on some of the tracks.
We also need a place to upload/download files....what's the best way to do this?
I think we should start with one track now. If it turns out okay and poeple are happy, we can see about building a second and - dare I say it - third track onto it.

I have used yousendit before to send files back and forth, can't remember the size limit off the top of my head, but as I remember, it was fairly large.

i'm pretty good at mixing vox and drums IMO, so maybe i'll let someone else handle the guitars and different instruments. vocals is what i have the most fun messing with and usually put the most work into.

www.yousendit.com is a great way to send large files. It's simple and free. When Gorty, F.S., and I collabed on that KISS song, we used it to send wav's, and it was great.
We'll just need to swap email addresses via pm or whatever. Yousendit works through email, if I remember correctly.
For my drums, I'll record the tracks, do whatever processing/EQ'ing they may need, and then send each processed track out to whoever mixes it. They then can take each drum piece and build the mix accordingly. I could send out a stereo wav of the whole kit, but if something doesn't fit, you can't fix it. Having each individual track would be much better. So whoever mixes it will need to have some drum mixing experience because I use 8 tracks and some voodoo magic. But really, I won't be doing any Eric Carr super-tom fills, so it will probably be more like 5 or 6 tracks. Hell, I may just tune the toms to ring like crazy and use just the O/H's, kick, and snare. I don't know.
Anyway, as soon as someone can send me a scratch track of the arrangement, I can get to banging.

i'd love to have a shot at mixing Greg's drum work. i've worked with groups of 8 or more drum mics on projects before.

My stuff is pretty simple if you've done it before. It may be a little much for people inexperienced with drums.

if i was worth a shit as a drummer, and if i had a place to record them (will soon), then i wouldn't be using stupid samples. but living in a rental with neighbors downstairs kinda made it hard to do drum recordings in the middle of the night, so i had to turn to DFHS. now i have my own place, but the room's just too small.
geez guy you make fun of my samples, then i get real drums and you make fun of my toms. either way i will mix the shit out of your drums! i'm better at mixing than i am at playing any instrument, but that really doesnt say much. so if i can contribute anything to this project, i'd like to at least help polish up the vocals and stuff like that.

I can host files on my site, but I don't want to publish the links to the mix files so my bandwidth doesn't get chewed up by lurkers. Don't worry, lurkers, I will still post mp3s if you want to track our progress. But the .wavs will be limited to participants, so anybody who wants me to host a .wav, email me music <at> naiant <dot> com.
Maybe somebody with some serious space will come along to help, but unless that happens, my site should be workable.

So long as we don't have problems with the links expiring on us or bandwidth limitations there . . . I have 150GB/month and 7GB of storage and I don't usually even use 5% of that.
I figure I can retrieve everything off Yousendit and store stuff as required.
