Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family  ;)

Recorded in 1984 on the Tascam 38 & M-30 mixer using Tascam mics, & featuring the DOD-250 distortion pedal, Ibanez Blazer & Peavey T-40 bass. ;)

"Chant" was the outro to the song "Big Brother" (Diamond Dogs album) which I worked up, but I never managed to work up the body of the song "Big Brother", itself. ...(as yet, 22 years later, TBD!!)

My wife said to me during mixing (for cd),... "David, it has distortion". My answer was "It's supposed to have as much distortion as possible!"  ;)

Just thought I'd let you know I listened to these man...nice tunes.

Now I know why I had to come here today!
Great job, as always! ;)

Thank you, again!

I guess it's just you, me & the dog on this thread, so 'ere's another one! A bonus track!
Soul Love!

I believe this is the first or second song I ever produced on a 4-track, back in 1982 at age 21. (Damn, that was a long time ago! Sheesh, I'm old!)

I'm slightly older than you, Bowie was singing "Heroes" when I was 21! ;)
Great version of Soul love, by the way!
Did you ever play Five years?

This one's by lying around for ages!

Up the Hill Backwards!
This is one of my earliest stereo recordings, a live-to-stereo on cassette- deal from 1981. Note the discrete guitar/vox on the left/right channels, respectively. ;)

I have to echo the previous comment on "Soul Love"....great job ...especially the vocals!!!

Yes,... hello and thanks again!

... as always!
Next up: What in the World! ;)

This is a prime example of a heavily track-bounced cut on the Tascam 244, (1983).

For those Newbies who crave knowing how a near-max amount of track-bouncing affects the fidelity of the tracks on a cassette 4-track,... this is it!

Each part is heavily layered, and the sound is track-bounced almost to death! Not quite, though, but it still was a fun song to play and produce.

If you lay this cut side by side to "Breaking Glass", (4-track cassette w/very minimum bouncing - only the drum part was bounced together),...
or "Sound and Vision", (8-track 1/2" reel with no bouncing),...
the difference in sound will be like night & day!

The stereo mix of Up the Hill Backwards sounds definitely clear.
What in the World's heavy mix is less confusing than your technical explanations. I got lost right after the track-bouncing affects!
Think I get the idea and the final result is not bad at all!

Reel Person....nice soundclick site. There'd be a few memories there :)

MA: Gosh, thanx! Aw,... you know it! That and more! It's the soundtrack of my life!!!

.......... ;)

PRamon: Yes,... in simple terms my notes are:

~ Up the Hill- was a live-to-stereo-direct recording of my early days, which is a distinct left/right sound, & nothing more,

~ What in the World is a heavily bounced track, in which the sound distinctly suffers. I'll try to dig up a Gen-II or Gen-I recording of it someday, for comparison. My main reference is to Newbies about not OVER-estimating the power of bouncing tracks,... a way of mixing and compressing many layers onto only a few tracks. 4-track Newbies seem to come into the recording game with stars in their eyes about the "10-tracks on a 4-track machine by use of bouncing",... and my example is to say,... it's not all that...!
F/I:
What in the World: heavily bunced: dodgy sound;
Breaking Glass: not bounced: good sound;
Sound and Vision: larger format & not-bounced: great sound.

Anyway, thanx PRamon. Your listenership and opinion are most valuable!

PS: This recording-thing is great fun. You should try it!

V-Axe: Y'know, at my best I'd like to be known as 'the variaxman of Ibanez and Analog tape!!! Yo baby, I know you rock!

===

Speaking of great sound quality,... here's a kicker! Gonna up the anti!

I think I've been sitting on this one way too long!
It's No Game!

FYI: This was recorded in 1984 on the Tascam 38 (1/2" 8-track) with a fair amount of track-bouncing,... but at this time not a full "collapse-bounce", but by judiciously bouncing parts one- or two-at-a-time behind other tracks.
Dudes: I think the results [fidelity/mix complexity] speaks for itself!
Regardless,... [great or sucks: you dedide, but]... I hope u enjoy listening!!!

PS: Sorry for the heinous falsetto! I embarass myself, but I assure you I've given up falsetto parts long ago for the betterment of Mankind! (Got plenty of it in the archives, though!!)

Aaw, crap! Enough about me! ;)

Had this one sittin' on the shelf for a while!

Suffragette City! ;)
Recorded on 10/12/91 live-to-stereo onto standard cassette.
Recorded outside at a house party.
The Electric Dogs Live! ;)

I get a kick out of this one.

Yassassin!
Recorded in 1983 on the Tascam 244.
I triggered the programmed Casio VL-5 riff with my toe as I played the guitar.

A great moment completely in accordance with the kling klang experimental sound of Lodger!
