The Case of the Disappearing MIDI Interface

I'm having a strange recurring problem with SONAR 2.2 on Windows XP Professional.

Every so often, for no clear reason that I can fathom, I will launch SONAR and will be told "No MIDI Input has been selected." If I respond that, yes, I want to select it now, there are my two MIDI ports from my Midiman MIDISport USB 2x2 in the list of available inputs. If I select them, the selection does not "take" and I get the same warning dialog box again.

The first time this happened I was doing all audio stuff so I worked without a MIDI interface. Eventually, one day they were back. (I can't recall if I tried to select them and the selection "took" or what.)

Anyway, it's happened to me again. I was actually able to log off, log onto to one of the other user profiles on the machine, and then all was fine. But it's still not getting the MID ports on my profile.

One possible clue: I installed the latest builds of both ACID Pro 4 and Vegas Video 3 sometime shortly before noticing this.

Anyone else see this? Anyone know of a simple way to get the drivers noticed again?

Additional clue: if I launch ACID 4, it tell me that a device has generated an error; the error is that the MIDISport ports are in use by another program.

Its a problem/bug with the M-Audio driver. Are you using the lastest one?

Yes, I do have the latest driver. How do you know this is a bug? There's nothing that suggests that at M-Audio's site as far as I can tell. Tried the SONAR newsgroup and can't connect to it tonight for some reason...

I get this occassionally too. With a different card.

I also thought that it was a driver related issue simply because once it happens, if I exit Sonar and restart it, I get a message saying that it can't communicate with the card.

Rebooting fixes the problem, so I therefore was blaming dodgy drivers or a combination of driver disasters with my Midiman Oxygen 8 USB MIDI port.

Good luck!

Its been happening to me since the day I bought my Midisport 2x2 several years ago. At one point I saw something mentioned in the release notes for an earlier driver.

There... I turned off the machine last night,, turned it on thsi morning, went into SONAR, got the "you haven't selected any MIDI inputs yet" message, selected them, and no complaints this time. They've "taken."

Go figure.

Maybe I'll read through the MIDISport release notes and see if I can find some mention of this like you sugget, brzilian... thanks....

Alternatively, take a backup of your working TTSEQ.INI file (TTSEQ.INI.OLD) and write a batch file which copies this working version over the top of the broken TTSEQ.INI file.
