The Best Mic+Pre Amp Match for Bass

Wanna know some diff ideas on the recording chain for bass...An Upright bass that is Ahhh!! uugg huh? lol No but seriously I have not recorded one of these ever (I dont think). I have a client that is bringin one and foolish me told him I can record it. When we finally narrowed down the date which is tommorow is when he told me it was an upright bass!!! :confused:, :cursing:

Record it with an omni microphone start ... about two feet away and about tree feet from the floor aim it straight towards the ceiling then ... adjust to your liking. Best recording of stand up basses I've ever got!

Oh and your asking about a preamp as well .....

I would go with a Joe Meek myself. There is a beauty for sale in the want ads HERE @ HR.
But what do you have on hand for preamps?
 
Moresound you are a life saver man. Ok now once for the mic placement of the omnidirectional mic. Did you say 3 feet from the floor? Do you mean the actual mic stand and position of the head of the mic? Sorry excuse my ignorance.

Pre Amps on hand, Avalon, Twinfinity, 1073 DPM, Focusrite ISA 428, and a WORLD RENOWN! Pre Sonus Tube Pre. Lol Im dead meat right?? :facepalm:
 
Whoops the twin & the 1073 is currently in Austin TX, so scratch those to. The Joe Meek is very affordable tho more. What else is the Meek good for as for as sound?

Well when people say that a preamp add color ... a Meek has it's own special sauce. ;)
 
OK if I got with the Joe Meek, I got about #300-$400 for a mic I can play with so shoot!

You don't own an omni! Blasphemy!!

Any would be good I recorded with a $19. Behringer ECM 8000 with sterling results.

Yet a lot of my LDC have multi patterns so I can pick and choose during set up or during pre-tracking if I want to go with something a bit different.

Head down to the local GC and get a cheap/medium priced omni tomorrow. or look on the local craigs list for a used one........

To bad it's tomorrow. You should reschedule so you can do it up right.
