hi all, got a question about how i should approach this.

for the most part i record my songs in relatively short pieces so i can work on arrangements as i go then edit the pieces together for a certain effect.

i want to apply the am radio effect to my first ten second or so piece. but my question isnt about how to do it, its about the order of things. generally advice is "get the right sound to record in the first place." okay. so with that in mind, this part only consists of ten seconds worth of electric piano and vocals. would there be much of a difference, or would i have greater success if i recorded the electric piano and vocals with the am radio eq treatment in the first place, or would it be more advisable to get "good" sounds, and then apply the am radio eq settings to the track as a whole?

for reference, the exact effect im going for is the beginning of fastballs the way. thanks in advance!

Get good sound first, apply FX after. But others like to apply FX on tracking ...

thanks mjb. i think thats what i was leaning toward. seems like if the eq for each separate instrument suddenly changed the effect would potentially be jarring. thanks again!

That's the nice thing about adding the effect later -- You can automate, cross-fade, choose the length of the change --- all while making it completely seamless.
