well, another problem with my PC and Cubase! won't let me record now, how do you like that?........... well apple, here i come!

Yeeeessssss. Welcome to the light side, the good side. You're in for worry free recording from now on. Now watch as the apple haters line up to stick their motherboards up my ass.

changing machines will not ensure problem free recording. If you cant trouble shoot it and fix it then it wont be any easier for you when a problem comes up with a mac.

Yeah get an apple. Two years problem free for me. I turn it on and it does the same exact thing every day.

Well, my PC does that for me as well:)

I swapped over a year ago and haven't looked back or regretted a thing ! I miss Sonar but once I got used to Logic it was fine !!

hahahaha! :p

Well, I'm not currently recording on a PC, but when i make the Jump, I'm going with an Apple and whatever the latest version of Logic Pro exists at that time.
I used it in college (we had 7.0) and it was Awsome.

<local linux zealot>

I never had a good experience with macs... constantly corrupting external hard drives... fried systemboard... THAT TOOK TWO FREAK'N WEEKS TO FIX!!!... moron Mac Genius's... stupid incompatability issues like audio between iMovie and FCP.

and when I walk into the store... it feels like cult.

Mac's can be cool. Honestly I don't think they are easier to use. They are quality built machines. The thing that brings the PC's name down is the Compaq's and HP's and cheap Dell's (the expensive one's aren't bad... just overpriced). They're just cheap computers. If you buy or build a quality PC with quality parts that are compatible and work for what you need it'll be just as good if not better than a Mac.

I think mrT is right.

Most PC problems are the result of using a cheap ass motherboard chock full of cheap ass components and shoddy implementations.

A good motheboard, like my trusty Asus P4P800, with a quality chipset and some half decent ram will last you for years and not miss a beat

I'm still running my P4T533 with 32-bit Rambus ram from about 3 years ago... Still truckin'! Not the fastest pc in the world.. but STABLE AS FIZNUCK :D

2.4ghz
512mb ram
4 internal hard drives (two of which are Maxtor Diamond Max )
dual monitors
firewire card
xp pro
antec sonata 2 case

list

well i'm gonna put out a little list of whats in my PC, built by me.

MSI k7N2 Delta Nvidia2 motherboard.
AMD Athlon 2500 Barton chip
2x Kingston 512 RAM = 1gig RAM
1 Maxtor IDE 7200rpm 80gig for system
1 Maxtor IDE 7200rpm 80gig for audio
MSI CDRW drive

M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard

Windows XP Home
Cubase VST32 5.1
latest system drivers

.......so from above, i assume i shouldn't be having any problems. you tell me.
i am planning on buying an apple anyways, cause i just want a notebook for my life, and dive into Mac OS for the first time. but i was thinking what to get for my music. a G5?

thanks everyone so far.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say.. maybe

Cubase VST32 5.1

this is your problem?

I would imagine that, by now, some of the problems you're experiencing with cubase have been solved...

Not trying to flame ya.. Just sayin'

Good luck on spending way too much money for a pretty interface, and subpar internals.

But I guess you are also paying for membership into the "I wear scarfs and frequent coffee shops" club.

Don't forget to place the Apple sticker on your backwindow, right next to the gay-rights one.

:D I couldn't resist the impulse to flame

agree

i have heard this could be the problem....... it's an old cubase, wasn't made for XP. but ya know, i've tried cubase SX, and its too complicated for me. i just record experimental/ambiant rock music. so i'm thinking a stripped down version of recording software would be perfect, right?
......the hardware looks good, right?

judging from my pc's specs, what choice would you guys make?

(1) Stay with the PC for recording, and get a better software package.
(2) Switch to my "coming soon" apple intel notebook for recording.....or...
(3) switch completely to apple and get a G5? and notebook.
