They used three(!) RCA ribbons at a time on Elvis' early RCA recordings
because he moved around so much when he sang.
Al Green used a RCA 77DX for his classic soul hits.

Just to make to cry a friend of mine who was an ex ABC tape op (that's Australian Broadcasting Corporation) loaned four... yes four RCA77DX ribbons to a so-called friend of a friend to record a jazz band about fifteen years ago.

And the result??.....

He NEVER saw the 77DX's EVER AGAIN!!!!

Yes, Bing Crosby has a son named David who did write a book about how disfunctional the family was, particularly with the first wife's four sons. She died of cancer and he later married Cathy, and I think they had two more children.

Just for the record Bing had NO sons named David.
4 sons, Gary, Lindsay, and twins Phillip and Dennis by first wife and three children, Harry, Mary Frances, and Nathaniel with wife number 2.

who cares

Who cares about some guy named Bing. Tell me about ribbon mics.

Bing, was a pioneer, as big as a deal as Les Paul. Even if he was a bastard to his son David, no wonder he was such a waste case.
