Tele back after fretwork

Don't stare at the eye.
Quite a while back I posted about a franken-tele I had built. My first tele, and I really loved the sound and feel. But the neck continued to contract a bit after I got it, and the frets protruded--to the point of discouraging me from playing it. (In defense of the guy who did the neck for me--he wanted to keep it and let it finish "shrinking" before he finished the frets, but I pushed him--so my fault.)

Anyway, found a local guy I trust, and just got it back today. Smooth as butter. Can't put it down. Just for kicks, here she is a couple hours ago.

that's not a fair sample - you can make rubber bands sing!
BUT, theat sounded really nice!
I have a China Tele - it's a bought online in cluding delivery $80 jobbie!!! BUT it sounds like a Tele - it needs some work on the frets (some stick out of on the underside just a tiny bit) and the selector switch doesn't select the bridge PU but it grabs the otehr two & all inbetween spots. & has one really twangy string - I'll have to see about adujusting for that someday.
Looks like a Tele, sounds like a tele plays liekan $80 guitar at present.
I LIKE yours!!
& yes, you do play particularly well!

Glad you're pleased with the results, WhiteStrat. I can't access that mp3 from work but I'll check it out later.

Ray--you've gotta get that tele sorted out! They're so worth playing. Way more than rubber bands. :D

Hey Zaph--lemme know what you think if you get a chance to listen.

Compression central! Niiice!

Compression central indeed! Good ear man! See, I just don't hear that stuff when I'm listening to others, but you're right, I almost always use the Blues Jr. w/the comp in front of it. Certainly did this time as well. I need to learn to listen better, huh?

Nice twang you have there, Bob. How about posting a picture of your Tele? I seem to play my Teles about 75% of the time these days, they are the first guitar I reach for when I start a new song project.

Ray, get a replacement for the China switch-I replace those cheap rectangular switchs with the Fender style-CTS I think is the good ones-and a 4 way switch adds so much verstility to a Tele.

By the way-the parts you and Ciro played on Chili's disc sounded great-I was surprised that my hillbilly twanging ended up on the disc too.

Sure...here's Marie right after I built her. The lighting is all "dramatic and harsh" and it's making her look a lot more orange than she is. Just straight ash with a vintage tinted neck.

I dunno brah, I just noticed it because I love my Teles with a nice dollop of squash! :) Fantastic tone though, I wouldn't change a thing. I kinda wanna post something now.

Hey Bob, I'll check out your sample later tonight.

Are you kidding me?? That Tele part made the whole song!!! Yeah, I agree with you about Ciro and White Strat; I love their contributions. Top shelf playing. I want to get them to do some more eventually.

Thanks for posting the picture, Bob-Marie is a lovely lady that sings like a nightingale! And I believe that the 3 piece bridge on a Tele gives the guitar a sweeter sound as well.

Only change I might make is to try a black pickguard on it sometime-kind of give it that early 50's look. I have a Tele I built that was originally a clear coat of laquer, but I painted it burgundy a few years later-and the black pickguard looks so nice on it now!

Nice looking tele indeed.
I love the Rhodes behind it - I had one of those but loaned it toa friend - both disappeared! Weigh a ton though!
I'll look into fix my tele - I've the impetus now!

You fix your tele, and I'll fix my Rhodes. I got it free from someone who said "It's broken. If you think you can fix it, you can have it."

Well I jumped on it--after all its not a synth, right? It's real keys striking real tines which are then amplified by what is basically a giant pickup. How hard could that be to fix? Ummm...harder than I realized. That was a couple years ago, and it still doesn't work. Every couple of months, I open it up and look for something obvious--i.e. a broken/shorted wire, but alas, nothing.

When the house is empty and silent I play it--that's the only time you can hear the tines. Guess it's time to take it to the pros...
