Okay, so I asked this question in the Analog Only forum, but I am not getting enough different responses to satisfy my needs. I figure some of you guys are fairly good with technical stuff.
I have a Akai 4 track reel to reel. I want to use my Davisound preamp on it, but the line ins use the preamp that the mic ins use. So I want to take and find the wiring inside so I can have a make-shift connection by-passing the Akai preamp, which is not very good.
When I record with the Akai in the mic ins with the onboard preamp, I get distortion from what I believe to be a lack of headroom. Meaning no tape saturation.
Any thoughts on this?
It seems like it should be fully feasible, right?
