Tech 21: GT2, Trademark 10 or 60

I'm looking at getting either the Tech21 GT2, Trademark 10 or 60.

Is the Trademark 10 worth picking up over the GT2 because of the XLR? And is the Trademark 60 worth picking up over the the Trademark 10 because of it's extra "Bite" and "Punch" controls.

I'm not currently gigging, so this is mostly for home-recording/practice. I assume I can always buy the Tech21 powered/extension cabinets if I end up with the GT2 or Trademark 10.

Hi. I have a Trademark 10 and it works great for recording and practicing! Personally, I think it has plenty of "punch" and "bite" so I don't know how useful these controls would be for me, so for recording I'd probably stick with the 10 rather than the 60. You may find the additional controls useful, depending on the sound you're after, but for me the 10 covers all the basses well enough.

There was a GT2 on eBay for $100 I was gonna grab. But I just ended up ordering a Trademark 10 from Zzounds.

If each channel of the Trademark 60 had independent EQ, I probably would get it.

Mr. Moon, are you going direct or is the amp miked in the song? Sounds like it's going through a big ol' 4x12 cab :-)

Not recorded direct, too "squishy" sounding for my taste... This tune is "old-school" metal so I wanted it to have that old Metallica tone rather than the newer tone today's nu-metal has.

The Trademark 10 was close mic'd with an SM-57, and ambient mic'd with a (cheap) cascade M-20 LD condensor mic about 2-3 feet back. The solo tracks were recorded with only the SM-57, no ambient mic-ing for 'em. At the time I recorded this tune, the amp was right on the floor (carpet) as I recorded. Since then, I have raised it up off the floor to get the best tone so far. I actually had to turn the gain way *down* from my normal jamming settings to get the sound I did!!!

Good call with the Trademark 10.

Then again, it would have been a good call with the GT2 or the Trademark 60.

A great thing about the 10 over the GT2, like you can hear from Mr. Moon, is that you can mic the cabinet. Mic'ing a cab allows for great variation in tones depending on the mic position.

Also, with the 10, you can record both the mic and direct, which allows for more versatility.

I personally have both the GT2 and the PSA-1. The PSA-1 has some controls similar to the 60, which provide for even more tonal variation.

Enjoy the 10. It's a great amp!

It's gonna replace my V-amp I bought used off of eBay. The V-amp is a neat unit, but... :-)
