Ok, so you're like a midi drum programming master. Very impressive. Does sound better than I remembered but still not loving it. Maybe the problem I'm having is the reverb on the snare sample. It just sounds like it was recorded from a distance in a small room which might be fine in the right context but everything else has a nice ambience so it just doesn't fit. What samples and software are you using? Like the kick. cymbals are nice too if maybe a bit washed out but great for samples which usually their weakest spot.
It's Addictive Drums and I'm using their Sonor designer snare which sucks less than the others... still definitely work to do, I know exactly what you mean, but wrangling with the software to get it right is difficult.. most of the sound comes via the "overhead" and "room" rather than the snare channel itself, which tends never to work well on its own, so it's always a balance. There's something about the overall tone that I'm not in love with either, I've had better luck in other songs, but this one, same settings, not quite working. Can't quite put my finger or mouse on the things to change though. I may have to rebuild the tone from scratch.
I'm going to play with it some more, but not today... I'm getting eyestrain from peering at MIDI controls, and I think I've heard it too much. Sounds OK if you're in the next room, but not so much if you're in the same room..
Usually takes me a week of tweaking to get a mix how I like it, can't see that this one's going to be any different.
