wow vintage tx you sure know these machines! belt is on order and i will let you know the outcome. One curious observation...the L spindle turns clockwise, and the R spindle turns counter clockwise, which when threaded, seems to put the two at odds with one another...

You welcome, glad I was able to help. ;)
About the reels spinning in opposite directions, you must have tested without a tape right ?
Both reel-motors have settings for the torque and tape-tension and without no tape they spin backwards. Fully normal Bean.

Great you have a belt coming, keep us posted.
If you need any more help, feel free to ask. :)

Vintage TX you sure do know you're TEAC's!!
I have a 2340 also-modded, for actual multi-tracking abilities-though it buzzes when in rec.

I had the thing in a shop for nearly 6 months, and it still isn't up to par. They could n't even get the pots cleaned, and the motor (in play mode)would just go into reverse for some odd reason.
Are these TEAC's good for getting that "analog" sound that alot search for?

Hi Tonio,
Thanks for your nice comment. ;)
Sorry to hear you having problems with your Teac.
Is your deck the older model with a slide-switch below the transport-buttons ? (Fast - Pause - Play)
This is the early model of 2340 and can be the problem with weird playfunction.
About the buzz in recording mode, a common thing are the sync-switches on the head-cover, there is a pc-board behind the cover with 4 switches.
Because of the location a small bump from the front, can easy brake the pc-board and create channel-loss, weird buzz sound on record/playback.
Also check all wires going to the board, can be loose or poor solder-joints.
The pot's on these takes alot of time and some are hard to reach.
Line and Mic input control on the left side, have a common thing to get loose in the shaft, usually the outer knob.
If you take the left side-panel off you can check if the small metal-ears are loose on each control, and spray contact-cleaner inside the 2 pot's.
But before you start investing more money and time, be sure the heads are OK.
Re-lap or replacement is not cheap with alignment and adjustment afterwards.
A low hour 2340 machine is not a bad model, the higher speed the better result.
But if you have the older model with the slide-switch as I mentioned, be aware those are trouble-makers Tonio.

Just my 2 cents messing with these. :)

I live in FL...trouble w/ hurricane's so my internet access has been somewhat limited. My time has kinda been capitolized too. Hope to get back to 'normal' soon!

Sorry to hear that, was a nasty storm down there. :(
It's coming our way tomorrow...

Vintage R u still on the forum? I was searching keyword for info on TEAC 2340-A and saw your comments to Bean (a long time ago). I found a machine that looks well kept & was in its orginal box i think it is from 75 but i would have to double check. It does not work but the motors move. So i am looking for help with it, or a shop. I am in San Antonio.
