Tascam2488 will not copy & paste tracks from the 'in' 'out' points

Any help on a problem I've been having recently would be appreciated.

I set a location 'in' marker, i set a location 'out' marker, then i set the 'to' point assigning where the 'in' and 'out' portions of the track will copy to. - i go to copy>paste and choose tracks 1&2 to paste onto tracks 1&2. It's says it is complete. i go to the 'to' point and listen, and nothing has copied. It will work once in a while if i turn the machine off and back on, but not recently whatsoever. It doesn't matter if I copy to the same tracks or different ones. Same outcome. Nothing seems to work.

Sounds like you're doing it correctly....that it would sometimes work after powering off and back on (and reinitializing the software) would seem to indicate that it's software related. Some things I can think of to try would be first to back up your work...then, check to insure that your 2488 has the latest firmware installed (updates are available at the Tascam web site). Even if it does, it wouldn't hurt to try and reinstall the firmware, in case the software on your machine might possibly have been corrupted (power interruption, etc., can easily do that). I don't recall offhand the key combination you hold while powering on to perform a factory reset, but that's also an option to try....I'd contact Tascam support to find the proper procedure for both a factory reset, and also to reload the firmware if you already have the latest version....there should be a way to force a purge and reload. If the problem is software, as the symptoms seem to indicate, one of these things should put it to rights again for you. Good luck with it!

I used to have similar problem with the 2488, but turning the machine on and off didn't fix it, so it might not be the same problem.

When I had that problem, it was always because my IN or OUT point were not at a zero crossing point (silence). I was always able to fix it by simply moving either the IN or the OUT point back or forward by 1sub-frame. It's weird, but it always worked.

An alternative, though it doesn't fix your 2488--use a computer program to edit. I use Audacity and find editing much easier to do when I can see the waveform. Audacity is free.
