Thanks and glad you liked it! I like it better then the first one too.

Cheers! :)

Beautiful thread! I realize I've been using some of these pictures as wallpapers for years without really knowing where they came from. But now I know... awesome!:eatpopcorn:

I have a request, although no pictures to submit: the Tascam 246. You did such a good job with the 244. It might even be cool to have a dual 388/246 one, I don't know... ;)

Thanks and glad to hear you've made use of the images for your desk top wallpapers! :)

The 246 is a classic Portastudio for sure! But no one's submitted any full sized files for me to work on and most of the ones that are on the web, (mostly from ebay auctions), are all too small or poorly shot with bad flash burns on the images. So here too is another model that's deserving of some proper photographic justice. So if anyone has a 246 and wants to try taking some good shots of it, step up!

Cheers! :)

File this next one under: Forgotten Technology

Anyone remember the Elcaset? This was a large scale cassette format that ran at 3.75 IPS on 1/4" tape that Sony came up with in the mid 70's and died a couple of years later when the standard Compact Cassette won out the format battle by coming up with comparable specs in a much smaller sized package. For the longest time, I thought Sony was the only player in the Elcaset game, but as it turned out, after a bit of research, I discovered that Technics and TEAC also jumped on this ill-fated bandwagon, and in TEAC's case, they actually offered one up in their mystical Esoteric Series!

So, without further adieu, I present to you the extremely rare TEAC Esoteric AL-700 Elcaset!

Another rarer item from TASCAM's early beginnings, the infamous 44...the first 44 that is. Oddly enough they came up with another 44 in the 40 series of decks which was a completely different animal but still had the same model number! I was always puzzled by that bit of marketing? Anyway, the original 44 looked to have a lot of borrowed technology from the 3440 and shared quite a bit of the same components but did start off the new taupe color theme that they went with on many models after it.

Moving one small step backward in time, I guess this is a good spot to introduce the baby brother to the wildly popular 80-8, which is the 40-4!

I used a number of different shots I found around the web to put this one together and did a number of perspective fixes to make it look somewhat cohesive.

Anyway, here she be...

Much thanks to technoplayer for taking several pics of his 3340s for me to add this to the wallpaper thread. He really went the extra mile to move the deck to another room where the light was better and made use of his previous photography schooling to follow my shooting suggestions to the tee! Thanks, John! :)

Anyway, here she is!

Here's another one from TASCAM's seemingly bottomless pit of 4 track decks! The infamous TASCAM Series 70 4 track. I believe this one is actually a half inch version too.

This image is from my "Frankenstein Series" of shots as this image was built from several different images and I also added the walnut wood trim cabinet to dress it up a bit. Originally, it was offered with black rack rails and some kind of hideous black and orange plywood box. I guess TASCAM's design A-team wasn't quite in place yet? :D

Anyway, here she is formatted for 1920x1080 wallpaper.

Much thanks to j.harv for taking several pics of his 246 Portastudio! He did a pretty good job following my annoying requests to shoot the shots in a particular way and did a good job all things considered! ;)

This is the first one of the 246 and might have one or two more later on tonight or tomorrow if my eye sight holds up from staring at pixels all day! :D

Awesome!!!!
Those look killer Jeff.

Glad you liked them, Jason! :)

It took a fair amount of work to fix up the lighting and perspective corrections but was pleased too with the results. They could have been even better if you had a higher end camera with a few more mega pixels to play with but them's the breaks! ;)

Cheers! :)

So, are all of these renders? If so, that 246 is insane!

No, none of the 246 shots were renders. Only the shots I specified as "renders" or "Frankensteins", are actual renders.

Though technically, the backgrounds are renders on all the shots here because I cut out the item from the original photo and create a new background for it as though it were shot in a proper photo studio.

Cheers! :)
