TASCAM US-224 or M-Audio Delta1010LT

Okay,

I'm really stuck between these two cards. At ZSounds right now, at least, the Tascam is $200 and the M-Audio is $220. I can't decide which I want more--the Tascam or the M-Audio.

Here's the deal... the Tascam has control sliders, but only two inputs.
The Delta has 10 I/O.

Does anyone know if the Tascam can contol on Logic, Deck, or Pro Tools? This is an important factor in my search for a new card. The Manual basically says that since the US-448 is much the same, but bigger, and many programs support it, the same should be true for the US-224. I just don't know if these programs specifically support it.

The M-Audio card is beautiful, spec-wise, but the only problems I see are that it doesn't have physical volume control/headphone monitoring, no Hi-Z option onboard (all RCA cables/except the Mics), and it's messy! There's also the fact that I would need to get a mixer and all kinds of cables and adapters to hook that up to the card... in fact... don't mixers output only 2-4 channels max (if you count monitors, etc)?

Please help!
 
The big problem with the Tascam unit is it's usb,so when you want to get busy & record more than 2 tracks at once, you're stuffed. And as a control surface - with 4 faders how useful is that going to be?

Get the LT. 8 analog inputs, 24/96 recording. Who cares if there's a mess of cables back there. Plug in once & forget about it.

The LT comes with 2 preamps, so you can record 2 tracks without a mixer. Any more than that, yes you'll need a mixer or some more preamps
 
Well, the only problems one of my recording friends has is the unbalanced inputs. He says they add extra noise to the recording.

Also that the noise level for this card is kinda high for a high-end card such as this.

Even if that's the case (you can eliminate the need for balanced I/O when you keep the cables short), I'd take a bit of noise over clicks and pops any day. :)

Unless you have Superhearing, trust me you won't hear any difference between balanced & unbalanced with 20ft cables
