How exactly work this unit ?, i mean, in the specifications it says : "Up to 2 tracks simultaneous recording" . What exactly that means ?

Can someone explain me what is what i'm going to get with this unit ?

I need to know every detail about what happens on the cassette when i push the record bottom.

is 4 tracks from 1 side of the cassette and 4 tracks from the other side ? or the machine is recording 2 tracks from one side and 2 from the other side ?

does this tracks get mixed ?

it is possible to record 4 diferent signals in the 4 independent channels ?

HOW CAN I SEPARATE 4 SIGNALS ? IF THE UNIT ONLY HAS 2 LINE INPUTS ?

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN ME THAT ?

"in the specifications it says : "Up to 2 tracks simultaneous recording" . What exactly that means ?"

--That means you can record two different sound sources at the same time. So, for example, you colud sing and someone else could play guitar and record you and your friend to seperate tracks but at the same time.

"is 4 tracks from 1 side of the cassette and 4 tracks from the other side ? or the machine is recording 2 tracks from one side and 2 from the other side ?"

--It records all four tracks on one side.

"does this tracks get mixed ?"

--To mix the tracks you have to send the output to another recorder, either a stereo tape deck, CD, or computer hard drive.

--You cannot play the four track tape created on the Porta 2 in a stereo (standard) tape deck and hear all four parts. That is why you have to mix down to another recorder.

"it is possible to record 4 diferent signals in the 4 independent channels ?"

--You can record 4 different signals to the four different tracks (not channels), but no more than two at a time.

"HOW CAN I SEPARATE 4 SIGNALS ? IF THE UNIT ONLY HAS 2 LINE INPUTS ?"

-- There is a switch on each input that will direct the incomming signal on that input to either of two tracks. Input one can record to either track 1 or 3, input 2 can record to either track 2 or 4.

underp. heres an idea for you.
ive seen tascam 38 8 tracks around quite cheap for 300 bucks or so.
nice 8 track solution. plus you can bounce with one generation so you can get more tracks. just add a nice yamaha mg mixer and you have a nice flexible set up. just an idea.

i don't live in the US.

someone is selling the tascam porta02, over the internet, here in my country.

Make sure the guy selling it to you sends you the owner's manual, and READ it before you start messing with your unit. If he doesn't have it anymore, then go on the Tascam website and download it. This will save you time and effort trying to learn how it works.

i already have the manual, but the manual doesn't tell you what i want to know.

and i can't contact the guy, cause i have to buy the product to get the information.

is like an ebay type of thing

Alright. Go here:

http://www.tascam.com/Products/Porta02mkII.html

On the left hand side of the page is a link called : A beginner's guide to recording. It's a PDF file, so you will need acrobat reader. Read this. It covers the basics of recording with the Porta02mkII.
hope this helps....

thanks for the help.

so.. basically i have to do the recordings by separate, i can't record 4 tracks at 1 time.

to bad.
