i know it's old, but i just got one of these yesterday and can't afford anything else right now. at first it was working fine and then while changing a tape i think somehow i hit the pause button and now it won't un-pause. i couldn't get the tape out at first but then did after an amount of force was applied... now i can't get a tape back in, hah. and when i hit FF or REW it makes a noise but the wheels don't actually spin.. as if it were still on pause.

does anybody have any ideas how i can fix this?

It's the belt. Mine did the same thing. Just flip her over, take out the screws and lift up the bottom cover, check it out. One of the belts has fallen off or is very loose (stretched out). This is the problem though for sure.
