Hey guys,

I usually find some sort of solution to most of my problems, but this is a new one for me, so I thought I would come here and bother the experts:thumbs up:. I'm pretty new to analog and I'm having an issue with a Tascam Porta 02 mkii. Whenever I record something no matter the sound source, upon playback everything is stuttering. The sound goes in and out, very randomly. I don't really have any guesses as to why this happens. Perhaps someone here has had a similar experience?

Any tips/help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

anyone think that perhaps the tape heads etc.. just need a good cleaning?

...

Thru the headphones, line outs, or both??
Does the stuttering effect view similarly on LED meters?
Could you pop the tape into another cassette: home, car, boombox,... to verify?
How about a commercial cassette or cassette recorded on a home stereo?...
Played back on the Portastudio does any known good tape sound the same?
:spank::eek:;)

Thanks for the reply,

It's through the phones jack, haven't had it go through the line outs, will try that.
As I remember the stuttering does indeed show up on the LED meters.
Will try playing the tape through a walkman ASAP.

Thanks again!

well, I played what I had recorded on a portable walkman and none of the stutters are present. Plays completely fine. That's pretty much all I need to know, the problem is within the porta.

A cleaning? replacing the belts?

try to verify the line outs to verify if it's just the headphone jack or not.

Heyyyyyy

I recently dug my Porta 02 out the loft and I'm having the same issue that you have described - but this only happens when my tracks are set to 'safe mode' ?

Did you figure out why this was happening?

Did you fix it?
