Thought I would start a thread on the HD-P2, 2-channel digital CF recorder so users can share info. I'll start this off with my own experiences. I use it on my production sound mixing gigs and run it off my sound bag NP-style batteries, which also run my Sound Devices 442 mixer and two Lectrosonics 400 series wireless receivers.
One of the complaints that other users mention, is that operation tends not to last long enough when powering off of internal batteries.
It is interesting to note here that although the HD-P2 specs say it should be powered from a maximum of 12volt DC and my NP-style batteries put out 14-16volts DC, the Tascam handles this nicely as I was able to find out that it's DC input circuit has a 25volt rating DC bypass capacitor. This powering scenario would have been a problem if the capacitor only had a 12volt rating, resulting in a probable cap failure eventually if not immediately. Also note that this is NOT a Tascam recommended operational mode and you do it at your own risk, but I have used it this way many times for hours and hours and it performs flawlessly. This is NOT something I recommend, just an observational note.
I am interested in any timecode uses (w/video cameras or otherwise) others may have to share here.
