I am looking for a Digital interface with Mic pres and firewire, that's both reasonable and good sounding (Is there such a device?)

Any thoughts on the above mentioned interfaces or other ones like them, in the same price range will greatly appreciated?

Thank you so much,

Sunflute

Are you looking for one with a control surface or a rackmount unit? The Tascam model you listed has a control surface built in.

I've never tried either model but I've had real good luck with Presonus. Their A/D/A converters and preamps are about the best in that price range. They are based in Baton Rouge, where I'm located, and I've actually been in the shop several times. Great people, service, etc. Well anyway, there's my plug for Presonus.

Either way, I think you just need to decide if you want that control surface or not. If not, I'm leaning towards the Firepod.

Thank you, The main thing I need is 4 preamps and firewire

Here's why you should get the the presonus:

-Not only does it have double the preamps you need... but it's drivers are, as I can tell, flawless. There are really no problems.

- While you don't have sliders, you do have stepped knobs. (I guess it's preference but I'd rather have free table space for other things and work the knobs)

-If you decide you just want an analog mixer for live use, the presonus is just that.

-Lastly, the presonus retains it resell value EXTREMELY well. They are selling like mad new and you rarely see one for sale used. If you bargain with somebody (I got mine for 540 at guitar center) You can probably sell it after you've tried one project on it at a loss of 50 bucks.

It's also 200 dollars cheaper than the tascam unit.
