Hi!

i want to buy the unit portastudio DP-24. But, after take a look of many forums and reviews, it seems that this unit have a lot of issues like freeze ups etc..With the new firmware 1.11, is all problems have been solve completely ? thanx a lot.

I've had no problems with the dp-24 and version 1.11. There's thread here about it, and one user reports a problem that I have not been able to reproduce, we're trying see if it might his memory card. The dp-24 is the best MTR I've ever owned.

Thank you my friend...so, i'm going to the musical shop today and i will buy the tascam DP-24 ! Wouuhouu !!! lolll thanx buddy!!

Martin.

Just be aware that there are issues with the 1.02 release with creating a CD from a 24/48 recording, that was fixed in v1.10 but that version had some serious issues with saving track data and was replaced by v1.11 a few weeks later (which may or may not have an issue as reported by one user here). As I say, I was not able to reproduce the problem and have had no issues with 1.11. It's likely your machine will come with v1.02 installed ... updates are available at Product: DP-24 | TASCAM ... and are easy to apply. Updates are complete, meaning you don't have install them in sequence, just the one you want. Reverting to prior versions is simple if you have the need.

Yeah i know how it works mainly. It's the same pattern with other kind of hardware always take the last firmware update. :)

I have had some issues with my DP-24. I've been getting freezeups and error screens when saving data, will this fix the issue?

Tascam reports that it does. But the update is free and easy, so why not just try it?

Ok. I just bought the DP-24. Update the firmware to 1.11. record a few tracks with it. It's awesome! No bugs for now. Good unit. i'm gonna update my rewiews tomorrow night.

It seems the other problem (reported by pbassbob in another thread) was an issue with the memory card. He reverted to v1.02, and had the same issue, so it wasn't the firmware. After doing a full format of the SD card he mixed and mastered without a problem. Looks like 1.11 is a keeper.

Another question for you my friend : Should I unplug the adapter from the wall after using the portastudio or i can leave it plugin...thanx. And i still have no problem with the DP-24. What a recording unit!

I leave it plugged in. I suppose there's a SLIGHT risk doing this (remember when those computer power supplies were catching fire a couple of years ago?) ... but I've left my AC adapters plugged in in various gear ... all my life (and I'm an old coot!). Glad you're liking the DP-24 ... I love mine.

- Edit - Come to think of it, I have the DP-24 and all my preamps and stuff running off a multi-outlet power strip (but I never turn it off). You could do the same, and just turn off the strip when done if it concerns you. Nothing fancy, a cheap computer surge strip would do fine.

I have a 2488NEO and it's on a power strip. If you do choose to use a power strip I would suggest making sure that it's out of the way where the on/off switch on it could be accidentally hit and powering down the unit while it's in use. Also would suggest a good surge arrester to protect your gear.

Thanx arcaxis for your help !

I'm a little green on the firmware update...okay a lot green. Can I download the update to my SD card, to install it? I couldn't find any help in the manual.
