Hello all, new to the group here! Recently picked up a used Tascam DP-01 8-track recorder, which seems to have an issue with some of the faders. I can record on all 8 tracks with no problem, but when I try to adjust the playback levels for the mix, several of the faders have little or no effect. The faders not affected work perfectly;I am able to fade the channel to silence. Could I be doing something wrong? There is no scratchiness or static while sliding the faders, as you might expect from dirty contacts. Has anyone else experianced this issue or know how I should proceed to solve it? Thanks!

OK, to add a little background info, I did a little test this evening to more accurately define my problem. What I found was that, as I said in original post, I am able to get a good recording on all 8 tracks. The problem is in the faders for some of the channels, namely 2,4,5,and 7. Faders for ch 1,3,6,8 are OK. Ch 2 allows I would say 75-80% attenuation of signal, which I can deal with, while Ch 7 barely has an effect between full and 0, maybe a 20-25% attenuation. Channels 4 and 5 have no discernable effect at all. any ideas?

Saw a video on youtube on how to clean faders with a q-tip and alcohol, figured it was worth a try. Much to my surprise, it worked! Due to previous owners neglect, they were filthy! All 8 faders work perfectly now, and I am a happy camper.

Wow. A problem-thread posted, refined, and answered by the OP.

Right! I probably should have posted this in the equipment forum, maybe would have gotten better response, eh? Oh, well, all's well that ends well.
