Tascam 488 problem

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help me - I've got a Tascam 488 and when I rewind the cassette to the beginning of the track, it seems to be rewinding slower than usual and takes quite a while to return to zero...

I'm using TDK SA60s and I tried it with a different brand of cassette and it worked ok...is it just the SA60s? I dont know :S Advice would be much appreciated!

Sounds like your belts may be stretched out.
But then again,..you said it worked with other cassettes?
Have you replaced the belts?
Also, If the SA60's you have, were subjected to heat or moisture...that may slow your recorder down
due to the tape sticking to itself.

Sometimes the tape pack is just tight inside the cassette shell and lightly flexing the shell in your hands, GENTLY, can loosen the tape pack and allow it to spool more freely.

Give it a shot.
