So, I have a Tascam 424 MKII I've been using to record, and I want to move the recordings onto my computer to mix them further/put them online.

I bought 2 RCA patch cables and two 1/8" connectors for the cables the other day that should let me move all 4 tracks at once (I think) and thus will eliminate the syncing errors that come with cassette recordings. I believe my next step is getting an external sound card, but I'm having trouble picking one. I believe I'll need one with two line-ins and I'd like one that isn't too expensive, but I have no experience with these.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Ideally you want one with four mono inputs. I doubt there are any which accept a dual stereo input like that, though obviously you could use some kind of adapter to split them out again.

An M-Audio Quad would probably do the trick though I'd have thought there would be a cheaper alternative with 4 analog inputs. You could probably pick up a Quattro cheaply on ebay, assuming whatever system software you use is still capable of supporting it.

I'm not really working that way anymore so I can't be much more helpful with external interfaces like that at the moment.

So the connectors are unnecessary and I should just go ahead and get one with four inputs? And I can still use the RCA patch cables, correct? Sorry, I'm just pretty unfamiliar with this. Thank you for your help though, jpmorris.

ESI - Product Archive: MAYA44 USB

Be about $80 USA I would think. I have an ESI 1010e.Aart from some weird setup issues it is a fine interface.
Better (of course!) would be the NI KA6 or you could be very lucky as I was and pickup a s/h 8i6 for 100quid.

If you can find one with RCA inputs like ecc83's suggestion, then yeah, just two pairs of stereo RCA cables will do. However a lot of them take 1/4 mono" jack inputs, in which case you'd need a pair of suitable cables, with stereo RCA one end and two mono jack on the other.

EDIT: Whoops, quite a few typos there

6.35mm JACK PLUG to RCA PHONO SOCKET ADAPTOR GOLD PLATE | eBay

Are one of the few audio adaptors I trust.

That^ is pricey tho'but. Look at Mouser, CPC/Farnell depending on your 10/20.
