I can't calibrate card 5. I bought a new one and it's giving me the same trouble. It seems as if there is a ground problem or something. I've ohmed all the wires and they are getting continuity. Has anyone had this problem?
Tips please......

No I've never had this issue with my 38. Have you taken a look at the manual? It has wire diagrams and lots of service info?

trouble found (i think)

i went back to the sync and play heads and wiggled the tiny wires. the sync head obviously had a ground issue b/c when i wiggled it the meter began working. i removed the plastic cap on the harness and sure nuff, bad soldering.
now i just need a magnifying glass and some tiny hands to rewire it. i would rather just replace the heads if i could get a good deal on a pair. the part number is TEAC 53783004. Any leads ?

Some of the wires on mine had to be soldered as well. I don't think you want to replace the heads if they are in good shape. If you bought new ones they would be a few hundred $$ Is it just the wiring problem that makes you want to replace the heads? If they needed re lapped that would be a cheaper way to go instead of buying new. Check out http://www.jrfmagnetics.com/
