I have a Tascam 38 and the output signal for one of the tracks quit functioning. I can record just fine. But when playing back, one track (#3) shows VU meter action consistent with a signal being processed, but not signal reaches my board. I have systematically manipulated the cables and it is NOT a bad cable. Does anyone know how I might further troubleshoot this?
thanks in advance

You might want to switch between the sync and repro head outputs via the front panel: INPUT SYNC REPRO buttons rapidly switching back and forth to see if exercising the relay switch does anything to bring the channel back.

Failing that, you will have to open the bottom panel of the deck where the channel cards are housed and with the power off, gently but firmly and slowly, pull the channel three card and then re-seat it, replace back the bottom panel plate, turn the power back on, and see if that helped to bring back the channel.

As equipment ages, contacts oxidize and cause indeterminacy problems so, doing what I described will clean the most "usual suspects" in this case.

Good luck.

Cheers! :)
