A Reel Person

It's Too Funky in Here!!!
I broke out my 246 to record my daughter's piano practice two weeks ago. Upon playing back the recording the next day, the playback speed was much faster than normal. I had to use the Pitch control to decrease the speed appx. 10% to make it sound normal.

I'd known of this issue before, but here's the textbook case of it!

The capstan belt had stretched and ridden down upon the flange of the capstan motor pulley, causing the speed increase.:eek:;)

Had to...

Had to remove two screws from the flywheel bracket to loosen it just a bit. There are cable wraps attached to the screws. The bracket does not need to be entirely removed. The capstan belt is removed by sneaking it between the bracket and flywheel.:eek:;)

The new 246 capstan belt is 11.5" (PRB FRM 11.5)

An 11.5"~11.7" (total length) replacement belt is adequate, (capstan).

The stretched belt was exactly 12" total length.:eek:;)

The 246 is exactly like the Tascam 244 cassette mechanism. Eh, ZEE?:eek:;)

The 244 and 246 use the same size belts.

Another great post!

I love it Dave! No doubt post inspired by Dr. Zee!:D;) That's so cool. :)Thanks for posting as I know how time consuming it can be to document such a service.

Ain't it amazing that by just a few mils [speaking of the belt], it can make a large difference in performance. :cool:

I love my 246 (and 244)!:eek::D

Are you gonna post some clips of the performance?:confused::)

-----

Not sure.

I may produce something new though, as yet TBD.:eek:;)

Whatever the case, the 246 is running great now!:eek:;)

Anyway,...

How many times have you heard a seasoned member tell another member that his 246 speed problem was because the belt had ridden down upon the flange of the pulley?

Well,... now you've seen it!

I don't have to tell you folks how I know my shit. I just want you to know it like I do!:eek:;)

Wait,...:eek::eek:

Aw hell! You know what I mean!:eek:;)

Yeah,... inspired.

No doubt post inspired by Dr. Zee!:D;) That's so cool. :)-----

I think my 246 was inspired to go lame on me by Dr ZEE's 144 and 244's going lame on him!:eek::eek::eek:;)

That is cool!
:eek:;)
