Hi does anyone know of any suitable & currently available 1/4 in tape sold preferably in Australia to suit a tascam 388 studio 8 that is unlikely to suffer from sticky shed syndrome.

Get new tape, it's the way to go.

www.casstape.com.au is the place to go in melbourne for tape.
We are lucky to have that shop. Up until a few months ago they had Quantegy 457 (discontinued basically selling off what's left) but now that's gone (luckily i got about 25 unopened reels left).

So RMGI is all you can get here in Melbourne now, very similar to quantegy and still very good tape. RMGI LPR35 is the 'suitable' tape you want (assuming your particular machine hasn't been recalibrated to some other formulation). RMGI SM911 is very similar also but the 388 recommends a tape thickness of 1mil whilst the SM911 is 1.5mil.

So yeah get a few 7" RMGI LPR35 from them and you will be good.

You can still get 457 from QUantegy-online. Don't know if the shipping would be cost prohibitive compared to the local LPR-35 though, OTOH, the wait would be.
