In the newest issue of Musician's Friend on page 128 (it says 'DON'T PAY UNTIL INTEREST UNTIL APRIL 2003' on the front) there's a power amp/monitor package down towards the bottom. Any comments about these products? This is the cheapest deal I've seen for a power amp with monitors, thanks.

Hello...

I bought the Tannoy/Hafler package a few weeks ago and I'm very pleased. It's plenty loud for my purposes, and the sound is quite an improvement from the JBL bookshelf speakers I had been using (through a stereo tuner/amplifier). I haven't done much recording since I got the monitors, but I have played some of my favorite cds through them ("Abbey Road," Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms," etc.), and they sound absolutely great.

I almost spent a few hundred dollars more for the Tannoy Reveals (passive), which I had seen advertised somewhere for $318, plus shipping. But in the end I decided to go with the Proto-J's. You just can't go wrong at that price.

I have that combo (though i bought it separate).....it sounds great and is plenty of good clean power for a home studio......

I bought a Haffler ta1100 and KRK combo. I'm happy with it. Those Event 20/20's have 8" woofers I think...thats not really a nearfeild like ya want.

oh? what's the event 20/20 considered? like, what's the opposite of a near field monitor? also, what's the difference between the two? are what the events considered a farther away or more colored version of a near field monitor than the proto j plus'? thanks for all your reponses.
