Has anyone used this software. Does it work well? Better than hardware compressors like the fmr rnc? I would be using it with sonar 3 so do i need it and whatnot? Thanks!

T-Racks is one of the worst plugins that I have used. If you want a good compressor plugin get one of the Waves bundles.

really? the guy on tweakheadz.com says its the best for the money! Also the waves bundles are incrediblly expensive. I might as well buy a les paul!

t-racks for osx

hey there

i have been trying to get a working version of t-racks standalone since i bought it in february!!!

they first shipped me a version that would only run in classic mode (and therefore no core audio) and now they have an OSX version, but it is still not running properly with my MOTU hardware on SD2 files.

i use the waves plugs (bought out of frustration with t-racks) and the native power pack i really wouldn't be without now! it does lack a good multi-band comp, but the L1 Ultramaximiser is awesome! it just lifts tracks right out - it's unbelievable.

that cost me (UK) about £300 or so. problem with Waves is buying a plug on its own is really expensive, but some of the bundles are really good.

have fun

Just chiming in -

(A) Yeah, I don't like T-Racks. For quick, dirty, demo-only, never-sounded-that-good-anyway stuff, it's fine. For serious stuff? Nah.

(B) Ever since I got the UAD collection of plugs, I rarely, if ever, touch my Waves plugs anymore. They're not hardware, but they're about as close as it gets.

Again not the least expensive option, but the sound quality and flexibility are beyond question IMHO.

John, is the UAD really that good? I love my Waves plugins. How much of a difference would I notice with the UAD? Thanks.

There is such a major difference between quality plugins and crappy plugins that it isn't funny. The latest breed of plugin eq and compression is getting to be amazing. The money that you spend on quality plugins is money WELL SPENT... especially the Universal Audio and TC Powercore stuff (the prices on these are reasonable IMHO and include DSP cards to boot--further blowing away Waves).

The UAD-1 stuff is incredible especially if you are after character (something the Waves plugs lack). It's great to get 'almost but not quite' hardware emulations of name brand, famous gear that you probably could never own. The Pultec EQ's and Urei compressors are nice.

I wish UA would go ALL THE WAY on their plugins and *only* offer top shelf emulations of gear. Imagine this array of plugins in addition to the Pultec, Fairchild and Urei/Teletronix emulations:

Delay:
Roland Space Echo RE201, RE501
Korg SDD-3000
Roland SDE1000
EH Memory Man
Echoplex

Flange/Phase:
Mutron Biphase
ADA Flanger
Roland Jet Flange

Chorus:
Boss CE-1
Boss CE-300
Songbird Tri-Chorus

Reverb:
EMT Plates
Yamaha REV-7
Lexicon PCM's (why not all of 'em?)

And so on... just model about 100 world famous delays, choruses, flangers, compressors, eq's, reverbs, and so on. Why let Line6 have all the physical modelling fun???

I'm sure it's just a matter of taste. There are probably those who disagree with me on this. It's all IMHO, YMMV, YADA, YADA...

I bought the UAD-1 based on your comments a couple of months ago, and I also have waves. IMO the UAD-1 blows waves away......

Just my opinion..

Cool. I was looking at the UAD and just didn't want to spend that much on something that wouldn't be a significant upgrade from what I already have, but it sounds like it would be that kind of upgrade.

alright i have been looking at prices for wavelab and uad on ebay and such and they are sooooo expensive! Could i buy a used copy and have registration shifted? There has to be some way to get usable software at less than 600 to 1000 dollars! Are there any free (or near free) plugins that work well with mastering? Also I need a good soft snyth database or module specifically with good strings.

I really dig the waves stuff its frikin awesome!
:)
Only UA stuff i have is the bombfactory versions.
1176,Fairchild,La-2a.
And they are great too.
But i dont consider them my main tools of daily use.
The waves stuff....

Ren. compresor
Q10
Ren.Verb
These are my "GO-TO" plugs.
I couldnt imagine mixing without them.

On the other hand,
there is another i have called
Pitch N Time!
I couldnt even do my weekly work without it!
Its like the scalpel for a remix surgeon.

In the grand scheme, $1000 for decent software and pretty good emulation of $3000+ pieces of gear is a bargain.

well 1300 dollars is what i have just spent in the last month to get a nice studio setup and i just dont have another 1000 for plugins. Are there other ways to get cheaper software? (ie. ebay?)
