Hi guys,
I had this in the DIY forum, then it dawned on me that you guys will probably know all about this.

It's simple. I've bought a realistic/moog mg1; It's in the post.

It's wired for US mains and I'll want to rewire the transformer in series for UK use.

This picture shows how to do it, and I'm happy enough to do the job, but
I expected the Live and Neutral to be the other way around in the series diagram.

If i hadn't had this picture, I would have wired live to 1 and neutral to 4, having bridged 2+3.

So, am I just wrong, and can anyone explain why?

Thanks guys.

I don't think the transformer cares which way the polarity of the mains are wired.

I also don't see the need for the DPDT power switch in the 240 volt example.

Cheers! :)

Thanks for the reply ghost. You confirmed my suspicion, because any other diagrams i can find just show two points labelled ac mains. Polarity never seems to be mentioned.

I wondered about the DPDT too. Even the mains socket on the wall doesn't break neutral.
IDK, if the switch happens to be DPDT with an unused pole, I'll wire it that way. No such thing as too safe, I suppose.

The only thing left that struck me is this.
Their wiring diagram shows the fuse in line with the neutral.
Ok, I'm the noob here, but that's just not right, is it?

Yes if you switch both wires you can be assured the live is always switched off inside the device even if the wires are transposed somewhere upstream.

I think the 240v diag has a mistake. Brown is normally the live or active. Blue is normally neutral. It looks like they have swapped the L and N letters on the mains socket symbol. If this is corrected, the fuse is actually on the correct (live) wire.

Fantastic Tim, thanks both of you for replying.

Accusing the diagram of being wrong would just be arrogant, since I'm a bit of a noob, but to hear you say it is fine. :):)

Thanks once again guys.
It arrived today and I rewired the transformer as per diagram, but with SPDT on live, and live through the fuse.

Everything is working tip top. :)
