syncing problem

Can someone help?When I record Something on my MD8 at say 90 bpm tempo for arguments sake then I set Cakewalk up at 90 bpm and sync up via sympte the two devices go out of time .I am using a p111/733 with cakewalk 9

One thing that could be going wrong is when you record into your MD8 are you leaving space before you start recording? This is a little hard to explain but how are you recording at a certain tempo on the MD8. Is there some sort of click track that you are using? When I sync my MDM-X4 with Cakewalk 9.0 I use MTC. You might try that.
If you can explain a little bit more of what you are doing I might be able to help you out.

Here's the reason:
Midi sucks. My drum machine, MD8, computer, and metronome, all produce different speeds when set at 120bpm.

If you set the tempo on the MD8, though, and then sync it to the computer via a midi cable, they should match up.

If that's the case, then your devices are not listening to the SMTPE signal....

Found this at Sound on Sound:
The MD8 can only transmit MIDI, so you must slave a MIDI sequencer package to it, rather than the other way around, using either MTC or MIDI Clock information, but you can then use MIDI Machine Control (MMC) to remotely control the transport functions. For use with MIDI Clock, there is a 26-step Tempo Map available for each song you record. I soon had the MD8 and Cubase VST locked together with MIDI Time Code, and was able to stop and start from Cubase using MMC.

This means you CANNOT use SMTPE to sync with, you need to use MTC as described.
