sync problems

Ok, I have a project with both audio and MIDI tracks in it, and sometimes, during play back, something will mess up[ I dunno if It's Cubase, my computer, or my monitors.] and it will stop playing. Then it'll start playing again, but the audio file won't be in sync with the MIDI files. Obviously, this screws me up alot when I record and other times too. What should I do to fix this?
 
Computer? Soundcard? Sounds like a performance issue
 
The Computer Is a Sony Vaio.....something. It from 03, has a Pentium 4 processor, uhh.....thats about all I know about the computer. For soundcard, I'm using a Presonus Firebox.
 
Maybe open up your buffers and add more memory
 
From time to time I get an issue like this where MIDI playback gets funny and doesn't sync with audio. Usually what I'll notice is when I hit play, the song position marker will start moving, then stop and then start moving agian. I'm not sure what causes this, but a couple of restarts usually sorts it out. I haven't been able to find any correlation with CPU utilisation, plugins loaded or anything of the sort. It's a complete mistery. Just one of those annoyances that i just shrug my shoulders, restart the computer and go on with my business.
