Also, Does anyone know of to embed the soundcloud player into the post? I tried the "embed link", but that just posted the text. I know people are probably a little hesitant to click on links these days...

The tutti (00:08/00:09) sounds synthetic to my ears. Well, we actually know it's not a proper orchestra don't we? Not sure what your plans are but the sample library has to be better than this for film/TV work. The composition itself is fine, you know what you're doing

Best of luck

Thanks! That's exactly the sort of stuff I need. I'm just getting into the libraries.. tweaking the individual instruments and such. When you say synthetic, are you referring to the quality of the instrument sounds, or the way in which they are mixed? As in, not a proper arrangement of instruments?

Also, my plans are just to write for fun, though I am striving to be as good as possible. I'm a geologist by day. Composing is just a a way to for me to unwind.

How ironic! I'm a composer by day. But I do geology nights and weekends to relax.

"Well, we actually know it's not a proper orchestra don't we" Who cares!!!! This is excellent playing and arranging. The dynamics are great, and the samples sound very realistic to my ears. The mood and excitement that is conveyed in the music is what's important! Whether or not the orchestra is real or not is irrelevant. This is really, really good work. It's easily equal to what I hear in the Theaters today. Dave Chambliss

Who's got the money to hire an entire orchestra, just to pitch a new song? That said, I really like the composition- I think it has real potential- but if it makes it onto a move score, please, PLEASE let it be done with a full orchestra. Insofar as this is a pitch, yes, the presence or lack of a real orchestra is irrelevant- but when it is time to shoot the money shot, a synthetic substitution only cheapens the results.

I think that the movies budget would dictate real or sampled. Music is probably the last consideration in making a movie, but the first to be cut. The music on the X-Files was played on a Korg Wave-Station. I also believe that John Carpenter plays a lot of the music that you hear in his movies himself using samples.

Well, I live in a small town in central Pennsylvania so I'll be lucky if anyone outside of this forum ever hears my music. I'll definitely keep dreaming of an orchestra playing my music though! I'm just amazed that the technology exists to put an entire virtual orchestra at your fingertips. Remarkable....
