the big question i have on this one, is how the kick drum translates...
i'm building some signature kits in Superior Drummer

and i'm experimenting with the kicks right now, i like this particular kick setup, but not sure of general translation.
i'd love some feedback on it.....
thanks in advance for listening.....

Translates really well actually. I just listened to it on my monitors and then switched to my cheap earbuds. On both it was thumping pretty hard. I would leave it as it is. Good work.

chandlerhimself

translation, thanks for the input...

i may tweak the 'point' on it a bit...
get the bite of the beater to poke out a bit more, for small-speaker translation.

this is a kit i've been working on for a while...
it's a work in progress.

Whole Mix sounds great man. Would have liked some more low-end to the bass (aka 60 - 80hz) just to phatten it up a little. Overall though it sounds fantastic. This sounds like if Pantera were a rock band haha.

burning

thanks!
rip dimebag.....

hey, i went back and tweaked the bass now, right at 80hz.....
that didn't seem to muddy it up any, i cut a little more at 120, and that opened it up nice.

you know, i've been doing some aggressive HPF around 25 hz for a while now, and even roll off kick and bass below 50hz sometimes, trying to stay out of mud land.....
but i guess for most folks, super lows aren't an issue, unless they're listening to it on a home theatre system!

my sony earbuds will get super low, if it has mud in it, it will show up on those....
i don't mix with subs, so i have to guess at super lows when mixing, but fix using SPAN and Waves PAZ to help me figure out the super lows.

Sounds good dude. Other than that I have zero comments.

The drums sound good, but for this particular song, I'd like them to have more attitude for the sake of the overall feel of the tune. I mean, if you're gonna swagger... Right now they sound too buffered, too softened, way too Fleetwood Mac to stand right up there with the guitar work.

burgundy...
thanks for commenting.... glad you dig it

dobro
appreciate the comments...
fleetwood mac.
i hear you.
LOL

i love his playing and choice of tone and whatnot, but this aint fleetwood....

so ok, i'll play with some more 'attack' and see if they can blend with the fatness of the rhythm track.
i'm afraid if i make the TOO up front, then they'll just stick out of the mix....

follow up....

i've remixed this thing now....

you know, i'm finding that some folks are commenting after listening on laptops, and computer speakers, and i'm learning that translation is all over the map!
LOL

i was listening to my clock radio last night.....just before going to sleep, i was reading something...
and i heard 'roxanne' by the Police, come on.....

i was listening to the bass line-- what little of it would translate thru the little 3" speaker on the top of the clock radio...
and two notes of the 6 or 7 repeating notes, would play, and none of the rest would.
they would just disappear.
LOL again.......

you just can't mix, to translate on every little system, that much is for sure.

i find that if i add too much low end..... for thump...
and too much high mids and highs, for 'thock'.......
then it messes up everything else, when you playback on a really nice system.

so, the moral of the story is, mixing is sometimes about finding the best compromises!

at least, that's my story.....

The bass drum is the only thing I'd tweak. I like the amount of click as it sits now but would love just a little more thump.
By the way - "interstate..." sounds good.

glad you dig it....
thanks for commenting!

rayc
appreciate the listen ray.
you think it needs "More" thump?
i was of the opinion it was already too much...
i'd be interested to know what kind of system you are listening to playback on, that way i can figure out the proper approach....

and thanks for listening to interstate, that was fun!

I was using sennheiser HD515 headphones - that may account for the disparity.
