I posted earlier this week. Alas not as sonically rich as sitt'n idol's but slowly (really slowly) getting there with your help.

This is a fresh new mix entirely 'processed' with a single plugin. (not Ozone)

I threw out free filter, l2 maximizer and an EQ and went for something different in an attempt to increase the perceived dynamic range (mixmkr, originally commented on this. mixmkr's stuff rocks)

I'm looking for comments about dynamic range and overall mix.

There is a slight tempo deviation towards the end of the tune and the guitar's tone will be much better in the final version with all the other parts to this tune.

So strictly speaking in terms of the dynamic range and the mix ...

Digging deep and hard into my recall, I'd say this is a big ass improvment. Much more defined. The melody isn't lost and the overall flow "feels" like a flow now. That crash cymbal during the break around 1:02-1:29 is too loud. It kills the moment. I still think the exit synth is a little loud but, that is just me following orders and "being cruel".

Overall, nice arrangment (not as mean/edgie/gritty as I seem to want it) but, wtfai

You've made some wonderful impovments and the fact that the song was instantly familiar to me is a good sign. I tend to forget stuff but this sucker, I remember!

Not mean/edgy/gritty enough? You're absolutely right. That's directly related to the guitar sound. This will be resolved shortly once we re-record everything and add several parts. (some of these parts are already fully created)

Thanks for the positive feedback dude. I'm hoping to fix the problems really soon.

Anybody else can offer some critique? i know the mix isn't perfect, what can i do to solve that? How's the kick drum? Is there a hidden guitar duel ging on? is the synth hearable? How's the perceived dynamic range? Compressor pumping? How'd I do with my Waves C-4? (that was the only plugin used in the whole process and mix. nothing else. one lone C-4 at the end of the chain.)

I missed the first version - wish it were still on the site to compare. I'm not experienced at listening/critiquing, but here's a try.
I like it, lots of energy, and there's good dynamic range from the single synth to the wall of sound to the break. However, for me the definition of the bass gets lost in the loud passages and the mix gets muddy (listening thru headphones.) If you could make the bass more defined and punchier and bring up its gain a little it would help out.
Just my opinion as a bassist (in entirely different genres of music) but you're doing a good job - better than I could.

seriously...if I remember, the guitars are a little more distinct, but still kinda meshed into a one note kinda thing. I like the tune, and the soloing seems pretty tasty.

All this seems to point to the fact that the guitars sound like crap and the bass needs help.

Well today is Saturday ... and it' smy recording day (woo!!!) so i'm gonna remake the tune and add a few passages using my brand new distortion sound I created a few days ago!!!

Then my drumer's gonna do his thing on the click track and presto, instatune. (20 takes later!!! lol)

Biiiig loud sound-I like! During the quiet sections early in the song the china type and percussion sounded a bit loud-the guitars are a tad muddy but overall it sounded very powerful. I like the synth run that starts the song -very cool.
