The reason I picked this song was this... fender had been around for awhile commenting on peoples tunes, but never posting anything himself.. When I finally heard something from him, I thought it was sooo insane and raw, I had to cover it! Even if there wasn't a challenge I probably would have covered it..
fenderlikingood - hey rick, your response was more than I hoped for.. I'm glad you like it!

I think the only lyric alteration was when I added 'God' to the line, "up so high like I had wings." That made it "up so high like God had given me wings." It helped with the freestyle flow I was going for..
About you selling your gear, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT'S LIKE.. I have had to sell all my gear SEVERAL TIMES just to pay bills when work was slow.. No joke! Don't sweat it because it's just stuff that can be bought again.. Sometimes even cheaper.. There was a time when all I had was an acoustic guitar, and a rubber pad for drum practicing.. I appreciated my gear so much more when I built it back up again, but if something happens tomorrow, I'll sell my gear again if I have to.. It's like a boat that takes on some water.. Sometimes you just have to throw some dead weight overboard and go back for it later.. You can always get stuff again.. thanks again for making me record something I wouldn't have other wise! mixmkr said this was one of my best!!
Kramer - The drums were done in Fruity Loops, and then imported into Acid.. I usually make up one measure for each part, and then put it into song format in acid.. It helps to have good samples.. I think Fruity is the way to go if your not a good programmer.. It is by far the easiest drum programming tool I have ever used.. If you got it, you could take all the samples from your SR-16, and turn them into little wave files, and then be able to use them easily in Fruity Loops.. There are some good SR-16 sounds I have sampled already.. The key to making usable samples is to make sure you cut off all the dead space before it.. If you left any blank space before the snare hit for example, it is going to be all out of whack when you try to use them with the sequencer.. It takes some time to make your own samples, but once your done, it's well worth it to be able to use those sounds in Fruity.. Acid comes in very handy too! I highly reccomend both..
Track Rat - check out Kramers reply.. If there is any improvement, it's because of the board.. I remember listening to that thing you did with rats, and I learned something from hearing that.. I try to never drown out the drums anymore..

how do you get the sound on the scream? That hollowed out, death type scream...it's more than reverb, lol. I need a good Prodigy-type scream for something I'm working on, and I can't figure out how to get that sound.
[edit] Specifically, @ 1:18
I added extra distortion and delay to the vocal sound at the time I was laying it down.. That's the reason why I print effects.. Sometimes you need to use the effect to help with the performance.. In this case, I got the sound first, and then did the screaming after I heard how it would sound.. I used to scream a lot in my tunes.. Distortion and delay.. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I'm always smoking weed when I record, and I think it helps with vocals.. For some reason I always get closer to the sound I want when my throat is dry.. (cotton mouth) I rarely ever drink any liquid when I record.. It might help give me the scratchyness that adds to the screams.. I'll never make most 'marketable singer on the board,' but I may take the award for 'most inebriated.'

do you use a 7 string AND tune it down?
I don't own a 7 string YET!

I plan on getting one soon though.. For this song, I was playing a Hamer telecaster.. I put a Seymour Duncan hot rail in the bridge.. The sound is like night and day compared to what it was when I first got it.. I left the neck pickup stock for those solos when you switch to the neck and lower the tone knob down.. There were only 2 guitar rhythms on this.. The chain was ---- guitar----Boss Pedals-----J-Station---Blue Max compressor.. The solos were----- Pod Pro--- Blue Max compressor, and then right into the recorder.. I e.q.'d a bit.. The tuning for this was drop C#.. Normally I'll use either drop C# tuning, or B-flat, or E-flat.. I have 12's on the B-flat guitar (mexi strat), and 11's on the tele.. Even though I'm going direct, it makes a difference to record loud.. I'm actually able to get feedback from my stereo speakers when I play loud enough!
mixmkr - your next!!

seriously though, your song is not going easy for me.. It's taking a lot of time.. I have a question for you.. I don't 'record through' a Behringer mixer, but I 'monitor' through one.. I think it's effecting what I'm hearing because the songs always have more bass on them when I hear them on the net.. Does the low end get boomy over there?
O.K. I think that does it for the questions.. Thanks again for the ears.. I had much fun doing this one..
